Warrant sought for Jomsap’s arrest

Police have asked the Nakhon Phanom Provincial Court to issue an arrest warrant for former teacher Jomsap Saenmuangkhot on suspicion she helped recruit scapegoats in a bid to exonerate herself in a fatal 2005 hit-and-run accident.

Provincial police chief Pol Maj-General Suwicharn Yankittikul said on Friday Jomsap would be charged with perjury under Section 180 of the Penal Code, which covers false evidence and prescribes punishment of up to seven years in jail and a Bt14,000 fine.

Sap Wapi surrendered to police this week, recanting his earlier confession that he and not Jomsap had been the driver of the truck that struck and killed cyclist Lua Phorbumrung in Nakhon Phanom on March 11, 2005.

Sap told police that Jomsap’s friend Suriya Nuancharoen had promised to pay him Bt400,000 to take the blame in the case so that Jomsap could be exonerated, but he never received the money.

Police have vowed to prosecute Sap, Suriya and five other people on charges including perjury, racketeering and libel.

Jomsap was sentenced to three years and two months in prison over the cyclist’s death but was granted a royal pardon in April 2015 after serving 18 months.

She has spent the past two years trying to prove she was not involved in the accident and to be reinstated in her teaching post.

The Supreme Court last week rejected her petition for a retrial, citing suspicions of “hired scapegoats”.

this is turning out to be quite the soap opera

This is turning into the most bizarre case of someone shooting themselves in the foot that I've read in a long time - and that in a country brimming with bizarre cases.

Jomsap had already been set free free thanks to a Royal pardon; but no, instead of being happy and getting on with her life she wanted her teaching job back (must've been really, really lucrative) and  allegedly conspired with several others to have herself "exonerated," although she knew that she was guilty.

And then we have of course the proverbial fall guy who seemingly would've been willing to be jailed for several years in exchange of a measly 400,000 baht for an offence he didn't actually commit.

Now an arrest warrant will be out and Jomsap is possibly looking at 7 years imprisonment, when she could've remained free as a bird if she had only kept her mouth shut and be glad that she got off so lightly.

Unbelievable. I really hope she gets what she deserves for being so indescribably stupid.

'Indescribably corrupt' would be a more appropriate description, surely?

Once there was a little sparrow flying in the frosty air and it's wings froze. It landed in a farm yard and was freezing to death. A cow walked past and in passing crapped on the little sparrow.

Very soon the little sparrow started to feel warm and happy and started singing happily.

A passing cat heard the singing and dug the the little sparrow out of the cow pat and ate him.

Only proves that someone who craps on you may not be your enemy and someone who gets you out of the crap may not be your friend.

Should have added if you're in the crap and happy then don't go singing about it.

This being Thailand, could it be that someone offered Suriya more than 400,000 baht to change sides so that he or she can save face?

Just wondering !!!.

Why do people believe that she actually did this?  It could just as easily be the usual RTP BS to "save face".  If she was unemployed, where did she get 400,000 baht?

While I do agree with you and I have no idea who to believe

she did not actually need to have 400 k baht as she has yet to

pay it. Maybe she was counting on a big settlement when she

was fully cleared. This case has more twists and turns than

a F1 race track. Po-po are certainly not credible, but she would

have to have huge brass balls to push the way she did after she

was out of jail and all but cleared in minds of the public.
