thai friend has a " blood stream infection "  so she has been told,  she states she has allready paid 6000 baht for a thai government hospital for treatment , 3 days now now she been bed bound  but i dont understand why a governement hospital would charge her 6000 baht ?

then she asked me pay for a private hospital for her....i ask why and she says government hospital are stupid and talk no good and doctor not good.

hmmmm...ok

so,  now she waits to see some kind of results, she says she needs wait 4 more days ?     anyway what would be the cost to treat this in say a government and also  cost of it in private ?

cheers

Need to be a bit more specific about her infection before anyone can answer your question.

I have tried government hospitals with mixed results from very good to pretty bad. In both cases there were massive long queues and the staff are so overworked that they do get a bit stressed.

Is this girl outside of her family area?  That could explain why having to pay medical costs at a government hospital as you are only allowed free treatment in assigned hospital near where you are registered on home register (and most Thai do not bother changing this until married and own household (although process is easy and solves a lot of issues.  Even a foreigner can use a government hospital if willing to pay small fees involved and for medications/etc.

Requests to foreigners for private hospital costs are often not on the up-and-up so you are right to question.

As for waiting for test results that could be true.  Even good private hospitals can not do all tests in-house or immediately.

Shes not receiving hospital treatment in the hospital she's registered at therefore she has to pay full government costs. On top of that if she decides to take a private room that may increase the costs by 1,000 Baht per night.

If I was the OP and the lady isn't 'so much of a friend' I'd walk away.

indeed. Do you know for a fact that she is in the hospital currently?

Culture and sensitivity tests take 48-72 hours no matter what hospital one is in.

As to costs of admission to a private hospital, depends on the hospital, length of stay and the treatment provided but would defininitely exceed 30,000 baht, likely reach 100K. For not better medical care than can be gotten in a large govt hospital.

She can get care for free if she returns to her home province.

As for the " talk no good " part, a lower class Thai admitted to a private hospital will not be treated nicely  there either. Thais have definite notions about class and someone seen as not staying in their "place" risks soem serious put downs.

The "doctor no good" part, doubt she is in any position to make an informed judgement. Waiting for culture and sensitivity report to come back is in fact appropriate medical care, but less educated people often have unreealistic expectations and if not immediately given a  lot of medication, feel they are nto getting good care.

Talking of private rooms , when I was checking out our local government hospital in case I ever need it I took a look at their newish private rooms. These were 800 baht a night and a huge improvement on cattle class.

Unfortunately , the nurses told me that it would not be up to me whether I could have one or not but up to the doctor and I would need their permission.

I asked why this was so and the nurse explained that the doctors are often so busy they don't want to waste time coming to the separate building and going up to the top floor for just one patient ! Grim.

Chulalonkhon Hospital opps Lumpini Park.
Ramathipithi Hospital near Victory Monument .
Siriraj Hospital on the South side of the river, Thonburi.
