Fresh News hackers say Hun Sen murdered

The Facebook pages of Fresh News and Fresh News TV were yesterday hacked by an unknown group who posted that Prime Minister Hun Sen had been murdered by one of his bodyguards. The fake news item read: “Samdech Techo Hun Sen was murdered at 5am this morning. There was a fight within his bodyguard unit. Please wait for more.”

 

A few hours later, Fresh News posted a notice saying the pages were back under their control after being hacked in order to disrupt Cambodian national security. Lim Cheavutha, executive director of Fresh News, said the source of the hacking was likely the US or Canada, adding that they gained access by hacking the Facebook accounts of several Fresh News staffers.

 

The website also filed a complaint to the Anti-Technology Crime Department of the Interior Ministry. Prime Minister Hun Sen took to social media to address the hacking.
