Election commissioner candidates reveal their visions for the EC

BANGKOK, 5th December 2017 (NNT)-The Election Commission of Thailand (EC) has asked 15 candidates vying for EC commissioner positions to present their visions regarding their roles and responsibilities after they made it through the first round of a recruitment process.

National Legislative Assembly (NLA) President Pornpetch Wichitcholchai, in his capacity as a member of a committee seeking new election commissioners, said it is still unclear as what to do if the committee is not able to replace all five existing election commissioners before December 12th as it has not been discussed by the committee members yet.

The NLA President also said the reason many candidates failed in the first round of the recruitment process was because they didn't meet all the requirements. Many of them decided to appeal against the EC’s decision to disqualify them. The committee will deliberate on the matter and see if they can reapply if they meet all the requirements.

The No.1 requirement being a family member or close associate of any person wearing a general's uniform. Those that didn't make the cut seemingly fell at the first hurdle.

And they speak as if nepotism doesn't and has never existed in Thailand.

The selection committee tasked with selecting five election commissioners has endorsed five finalists who has passed the committee’s vision presentation test.

Pornpetch Wichitcholchai, chairman of the National Legislative Assembly and member of the selection committee said Tuesday (Dec 5) that the five finalists were chosen out of a total of 15 applicants who were qualified for vision presentation test.

To pass the test, the candidates must receive two-thirds of the votes of the selection committee, chaired by Supreme Court president Cheep Jullamon.

So what is the job? Don't they have to be good at maths and counting? Any wrong doing would have to be heard by the judiciary? So do they have to act as arbitrators?

If so who has qualifications as a Arbitrator or who has qualifications as a expert in statistic modeling.

You allow them to remain until a qualified candidate has been selected so a full commission can continue to function ?

The question of competence of this committee is staggering and they're selecting EC candidates?
