Toon reaches Chainat, donations reach Bt690m

By The Nation

Charity run hero Artiwara “Toon” Kongmalai reached Chainat on Saturday morning, day 39 of his charity campaign as public donations reached Bt690 million, just Bt10 million short of his goal.

Toon started the first lap of the day’s 14.5 run from the PTT petrol station on Bang Bua Thong-Chainat road in Suphan Buri at 3am.

14.5 kilometres to enter Chainat’s Hankha district.

Many fans, including local Suphan Buri and Chainat people waited roadside to cheer him on.

Artiwara was warmly received by a crowd at the day’s first stop, CP CP Seed shop in Hankha. He was treated to a choir concert and a check-up by a nurse.

After a brief rest, Toon and his group made ran the 12-kilometre second leg, joined by popular lookthung singer, Koong Sutthiraj.

Many celebrities greeted Toon at the end of the second lap at the Tambon Sankhaburi Municipality in Chainat’s Sankhaburi district.

At the second rest point, Toon was received by Maj-General Itthipol Suwannarat, commander of the 13th Army Circle, and Chainat deputy governor Parinya Phothisat. The two jointly handed Toon Bt2.152 million that Chainat people had donated for the fundraising drive.

During his second rest, Toon joined with the 13th Army Circle band to sing his Bodyslam band’s popular song “Saeng Sud Thai” (“The Last Ray of Light”.

The website KaoKonLaKao.com reported that Toon has run 31 days, covering 1,483 kilometres and raising donations of Bt690.542 million. Toon is planning to run for 2,191km to Mae Sai in Chiang Rai to raise Bt700 million for 11 major hospitals nationwide.

Running for a good course

Good on him. Everyone had doubts but he's making headway and raising a fortune.

This is what I do love about Thai people, they are generous beyond their means when someone like this comes out and rallies.

Makes the government look like twits

He should run for PM when he's done.

It's all good but the poor shouldn't be paying for hospitals if government has billions on toys

Good on him I suppose, but 2/10 for realism. The net result is that people will love him for about 10 minutes after he finshes, and Prayuth will remember him for less than that.

Thais have a short little span of attention.

More good news like this will surely be appreciated.

I really don't think he is looking for love. He has used his already acclaimed fame to make his cause known, for something he believes in, something that will help the country look after it's denizens within the areas of the hospitals chosen for support. Something that the government should be doing already. No better way to tell the establishment to get their sh1t together IMO.

At least that is the way I like to believe it unfolds......................

You might be right but I think you're wrong. People like this thrive on love and attention. Enough is never enough. That's what makes them good showbiz people. Of course fans say not so, but it is. I never heard of his 'famous' rock and roll band, did they ever have a hit outside of Thailand? I'm betting not, which puts it in some sort of sad perspective. Thai music, even the copied stuff, generally sucks pretty badly, something else they can't do right.

They are basically all linkin park or cranberries copies.

Simple chords, soft verses, then distortion and screaming chorus....occasional zombies.

I actually don't mind Thai rock music only because I don't understand what they're singing about.

Usually simple. Bad gal dun me wrong. Good gal dun me right. Poor boy makes good and some masturbatory fantasies. If you've seen the Thai teen shows, then you already know everything useful about the Thai moosic seen. Tarts bumping and grinding, pop stars wearing dark glasses and/or silly hats, dressing up in Cuban designs from 70 years ago. Screaming teenyboppers-a-plenty.  Easily scriptable with no-talent comperes whose dads know the production company owner. Usual thing.
