How do I show I have had 400k for the required time?  Does a copy of my bank book suffice or do I need a letter from the bank or something?

I haven't found any very recent reports on doing this at chaengwattana. Has anything changed recently? I think I just need

  • the form
  • a photo
  • proof of funds
  • copy of wife's tabian baan and id card
  • copy of marriage certificate
  • copies of my visa and departure card

Is that it?

Thanks a lot,

Westen

I did this on Monday last week here in Chiang Mai. A different office I know, but I went to my us consulate here and got an affirmation of income letter certified saying I made 40,000 thb a month and that's all I needed.

This has to be confirmed by your bank. They give you a letter stating your account number, funds and date of deposit. Cost of this letter is about 100 baht and is good for usually 30 days. When you go to immigration make sure you have your bankbook with you. Some immigration offices require that the letter and update of the bank book be done on the same day that you apply.

You need the letter from the bank stating the deposit.

This has to be on the day or day before at most offices.

Plus an updated bank book. This will show how long the money has been in the account.

You need the spouse.  And a map to home.  And information on residence if not same as home register.  Believe you still need photos together in home/bedroom (to show clothing together) with at least one showing both of you with house number showing.

At Bangkok you can visit your bank branch on floor below immigration for the letter - they do routinely and know the format.  You will also need your account book and copies.  As well as copies of original visa/entry stamps.

At Jomtien Immigration letter from bank was valid only 2 days and they required updated bankbook and of course copys from that.

Yes, don't withdraw any money after you get the letter as then they would not tally.

I had a letter, in Thai, from Citibank to confirm my deposit [dated Friday and I was at Immigration on Monday], but Chaeng Wattana made me go to ATM, withdraw 500 baht using my ATM Card, and give Immigration the slip showing the remaining balance etc etc.......

Did mine last month. As other posters have mentioned, I went to my bank ( Kasikorn ) in Hua Hin. Had to pay 100 Baht into the account to activate an entry. This then showed a balance in the book that the money had been in for 2 months. Then two copies of the letter from the bank, Hua Hin Immigration are very good, but they require TWO copies of EVERYTHING !!

Also I am not sure if mentioned earlier, but we needed a Kor Rohr, or letter from the Hua Hin council office to say we were still married. Wife just went down with marriage license, and two letters were printed off and stamped.......150 Baht.

What do you mean by stating the deposit?  Does it have to be in one deposit? There has not been one particular deposit that has exceeded 400K into my bank.  I just accumulated it over the preceding 6 months.  I thought just having 400k for 2 months was enough.

I can not find this documented anywhere, it sounds pretty crazy.  Barely any of the houses in my neighbourhood have numbers on them and mine doesn't.

Thanks, Westen

Deposit means the amount in the bank.

Paint the house number on a bit of wood and stick it up somewhere.

Stand in front of it for a photo.

That's what I do.

Item 12 on the list posted above - has been a requirement for more than a decade.

The bank book only has to show a balance of 400,000 or more for a continuous 2 month period up to when you apply.......how it gets there is irrelevant.......20 Baht deposits every 10 minutes.......

Photos.........We had to supply two copies of three different photos. As posted by others, these include you and Spouse outside house showing house numbers.....e.g.     102 / 12......Two others of you both togehter in and around the house, with different shirt on each time !!!

Documented?  You must be thinking of another country.  Some have reported adding the numbers on their homes to meet this qualification - which should be OK, provided the address is genuine.

For marriage extension all offices exempt regional headquarters are require two copies.

One for them and one for approval at regional headquarters.
