BANGKOK — A prominent Redshirt leader will serve a year in prison for defamation after the Supreme Court reaffirmed his conviction Thursday morning.

I bet he's laughing his behind off about the weakly influenced, lenient Thai Justice System......

No, he confessed to making defamatory comments that were aimed at smearing someone for political purposes and inciting others.

Btw - please tell us who elected him to lead the UDD?

Remind me again why the UDD (not a government organization but a private one) must have elections?

Maybe because they fight (pretend to) fight for democracy and if you are yourself then not a democratic organisation your nothing but a bunch of hypocrites. Something like that just out of the top of my head.

Who cares who elected him, at least he can say he was elected by someone other than himself.

You are obviously a man who admires democracy, transparency and openness in elections.

Sadly within the UDD, there is none at all.

Jatuporn along with Nattawut were never elcted at all but merely given the post by Tida Tavornseth when she quit as the leader of the UDD.

She was not elected either.

The United Front for Democracy Against Dictatorship (UDD) has a joke in its name as there is NO democracy involved in it.

That's like saying an organization that fights poverty must solely consist of poor people.

That is not the same thing, you cannot change if your poor or not but you can make your organisation democratic if you fight for democracy. Also those fighting against poverty want people to be rich. So they don't have to be poor as they want people to have money there is no shame in having money. But not being democratic while fighting for democracy is the ultimate fail. Its like campaigning against drunk driving while being drunk and driving yourself. I am sure someone as educated as yourself can see the difference.

Bit like how the current goverment is now having a big egg on the face for campaigning against corruption but having people like Prawit who might have gained their money through corruption ( i think he is corrupt but has not been convicted of it yet)

I try to be neutral. I'm not really pro any party but have seen positives and negatives from all of the government and parties since 2006 .I understand there are complaints about various actions of jatuporn and his party. However, in this particular case did the punishment "prison" fit the crime "speech"?

Seldom have members of this forum been so unanimously pro-election! It has not always been the case!

JATUPORN-696x392.jpg
I've never really understood it or how he does it. Every time you see Jatuporn in the news he's always smiling from ear to ear like he's just won the lottery when in reality he's in some sort of fix such as in prison garb being led to the cells.

HE be lachumpin it.. das why..

He wouldn't hurt a fly . I have a bad feeling the court lessoned his sentence to show fairness , before giving him 20 years in the next case . At that time his sweet smile will be gone forever .

Poor man .

- UDD ..... democracy against dictatorship.

If they want to claim they are fighting for democracy it would be logical to actually be a democratic organization...

Oops.

I am always neutral.

What does irony mean?

Those recalcitrant lot of die-hard juntarists and yellow shirts defenders are not worth the time to reply. They keep regurgitating the same stuffs that have been debunked. They love the military rule as long as it is not their country.

Oh, I say, that's a bit harsh Eric. A couple of them are showing touching concerns about the democratic probity of the UDD! I wonder if, like Saint Paul they fell off their horses whilst on the road to whatever the local equivalent of Damascus is!

We can no doubt look forward to an equally eviscerating repudiation of the junta government which they have until now espoused....

Abhisit never ordered  the use of live ammo. You are just repeating redshirt propaganda. Your post is ignorant and serious defamation. it is also contempt of court.

Actually it is even worse than what you stated. They have not even been acquired by a court because there has been no trial. The NACC just dismissed the case in 2015. 90+ dead people and no in-depth investigation and no trial.

So it's contempt of a court-rhat-never happened then?

Oh dear me, your threatening post, Gamini old chap, falls a bit flat then.

Never mind, next time you prepare the ground for dobbing someone in, you will have to be a bit more thorough...

That doesn't make any sense at all. What about those students that have been jailed by the junta on several occasions (and might still be in jail for all I know without legal representation nor right to appeal). Who selected them to fight for democracy? Are they a bunch of hypocrites?

They are not but the UDD is unless they become democratic and have their leaders voted it (FAT chance). Those students are a different story, those are in general people who are really out there to better the place not fill their pockets like Jatuporn.

In my opinion most of the (if not the entire) leadership of the UDD consist of very unsavory characters so I guess we agree on that. But the notion that any organization fighting for democracy has to have an elected leadership we will just have to agree to disagree on.

" While the court rejected Jatuporn Prompan’s final appeal of his 2009 conviction for making libelous remarks  ...  it also halved his original sentence of two years to a year in jail. "

Meanwhile Jatuporn's sentence has been halved, a nice gesture towards reconciliation, and surely good news to be welcomed by pro-UDD posters ?

Yep, keep them aware with the notion that respect for the law is not required.

This guy is directly responsible for the hostage taking of Bangkok and later burning of Bangkok in 2010. I wonder if he has/will be punished for that.

It wasn't just him.  Remember all those on stage telling supporters to burn Bangkok to the ground?  They should all be charged and put in jail.
