Artiwara Kongmalai or Toon Bodyslam runs to the finish line of his cross-country charity run Monday in Chiang Rai province.

CHIANG RAI — A rockstar who just completed a nationwide run to raise money for charity on Wednesday morning refused an army offer to fly him back to Bangkok aboard a military aircraft.

Rather than taking an afternoon flight aboard a milit

ary transport, Artiwara Kongmalai, or Toon Bodyslam, instead will take a couple of days of doctor-ordered rest before returning to the capital by car, his spokesman said Wednesday.

Good on him, Prayut just in a rush to get a slice of the limelight.

Let the military donate the cost of the airlift  to Toon's charity

A silent protest. Good on you Toon.

Unlike the stodgy bores who hold this country hostage, he continues to be a man of and for the people.

Well done that honorable man.

In the pic above, and watching the news on his final arrival, the man looked totally shattered.

Still, getting on stage with his band mates for a brief few songs re energized the bloke.

Excellent to see.

Kudos, Toon.

Toon has done a magnificent thing,

Yet now it is over the army top brass are trying to get in on the act, gain some credit for doing nothing !!Plebs !!

If it is not a regularly scheduled flight, they are using tax payers money to share in the triumph and good PR.  That is not nothing.  That is opportunism.  Like buying coal from the US.

Top top man.

Running and stopping for photo's etc.

Incredible and very heart-warming for me.

Again, a top guy.

Have a rest now.

I think he should run for PM !!!

He just crossed the whole country running and now he has to run again?

And to become PM you don't need support or policies, just guns. I doubt he has any.

Good man! He can run over 2000 km, and the army think he can´t walk to a hospital? Who is the one looking stupid?

I had the pleasure of him stopping and shaking my hand as he passed our small village - he looked quite fresh and radiant for his triumphant run.

The village gave him a great turnout and the kids ran a short way along with him. He was glowing and the few public hospitals that he passed were draped with furling banners and flags...

what a wonderful thing for him to do and what a wonderful response from the Thai people...

military cant seem to fund hospitals and people have to nearly kill themselves running for charities/donations

They can if they don’t increase the military budget by 2% and do away with the blimp, aircraft carrier, submarines, tanks, airplanes and bloated number of generals.

Not unexpected that the junta would be all over him like a rash.

He'll be hot property if there's ever an election. As it says here, he's become somewhat of a poster boy for the junta's 12 core values and all.

Quote

While already a heartthrob to his legion of fans as a rock singer, Mr Athiwara has become the very ‘champion’ that the junta could only have dreamed of. Non-political (so far), popular, of the right age demographic to cross generations, espousing a similar philosophy as its 12 core values of citizenship, and willing to make great sacrifices to help fellow Thais, Mr Athiwara is the epitome of what the junta believes a good citizen should be.

Didn’t the military fly him out to the start?

If so, the junta Kool-Aide has possibly warn off.
