BANGKOK — Ekachai Hongkangwan may have no love for the junta deputy junta chairman currently besieged by a scandal involving his collection of luxury watches, but the activist said Thursday that he sympathized with the general as a fellow watch lover.

That was the rationale Ekachai gave for attempting to block a junta motorcade Wednesday morning: to present Gen. Prawit Wongsuwan with a new watch as a New Year’s gift. For his latest stunt, Ekachai was detained by police, though the activist said he was told no charges would be filed.

My 3,000 baht Citizen watch can tell the time just as good as his half a million Rolex watch.  And I don't have to hide mine from the NACC.

One of the several scrooges and pitfalls of being inexplicably rich,

is having to explain the origin of the loot, which is a problem if you're

holding an office that is under the public scrutiny and watchful eye....

Alternatively you can just take over the country and appoint the NACC with your cronies.

Seems like a lot more of work, but then its all fine to have a dozen of hi-so watches.

Mine cost 1100 baht.

Works already flawlessly for three years, on its second battery however.

This watches story isn't going to die, no matter how much the generals wish it would.  In fact they risk this becoming how the current junta will be remembered in the future.  A kind of "Watchgate".

And the 5 million a year increase over 6 years in his personal wealth despite struggling along on a stipend of less than 200,000?
