An ex-Marine was crushed to death by a wild elephant in his longan orchard in Chanthaburi’s Pong Nam Ron district on Sunday night (Dec 31).

District officials said that the former Marine officer, 59-year old Prapas Pannarat, heard his dogs barking in the orchard late Sunday night and alerted his son, Mr Akkarawat, to find out if there were any thieves trying to steal their fruits.

Instead of thieves, the two men found themselves in confrontation with a wild elephant which charged into them. Prapas failed to escape and was crushed by the animal while Mr Akkarawat was slightly injured when he tried to help his father.

Did the elephant have a licence to own and operate his orchard???

I'd say you have a problem with English comprehension. There is nothing wrong with his expression --

"... a wild elephant in his longan orchard." Here "his" refers to the man's orchard, perfectly clear.
