How to get Wi-fi In Asoke new Condo.

Hey Everybody, I'll fly to Bkk in 28 January for 3-6 months. I found Condo in Bkk Asoke and there is no Wi-fi which I need most.

Now I have Two questions:

How I can Get Fastest Wi-fi when I'll be there. I need to sign a contract?

How long I'll have to wait for Wi-fi it's very important as I need it soon as possible.

I'll be grateful if someone guide me how I'll get that done as I have no idea.

All tips welcome.

Why not just get a AIS 12call happy SIM, load up an internet pass, and share the internet via a smartphone's "hotspot" feature ?

While there are many companies that can sell you subscriptions to potentially nearby fixed "WiFi Hotspots", you're better off (as RandomSand suggests) with subscribing to some type of Mobile Internet.  The main carriers in Thailand are AIS, DTAC, TRUE and TOT-3G.

 

Using a mobile carrier compatible 3G/4G Smartphone, portable 'Pocket WiFi' device, or USB 'AirCard', you can stick a local SIM Card and have Internet almost anywhere without the issue of needing to be near a fixed WiFi Hotspot.

 

The subscription options range from slow but unlimited data, to fast but time or data limited, to pay the big money for fast/unlimited. But it will be usable Internet.

Yeep It will be the best and the fastest way to use 4G Router or Usb pocket. If you use same method there, can you check at broadbandspeedchecker.co.uk What Ping/Download/Upload speed you have as this is most important as I need to connect to my RDP so I need fast as possible speed.

It will vary between something like 100ms to Asia and 400ms to Europe.

 

You could ping the following IPs?

3BB DNS Server; 110.164.252.222
CAT DNS Server; 61.19.245.245

 

...and then add 100ms for the 4G element.

 

For the speed bandwidth there's a speedtest results database here https://testmy.net/country/th

 

For remote desktop you can double the ping result to know the "real speed". For europe, or even the USA, it's going to be a RDP experience with a whole second (1000 ms) delay.

 

Personally, having used TeamViewer between a CAT Telecom cable connection and a UK ADSL desktop, It drive me nuts and was very jerky so I can't imagine it would be much fun over 4G ...unless for an emergency.

4G does not add +100 ms ping. It is more like 20-40 ms

I probably would have chosen accommodation which offers fixed broadband service.

 

There may be a WiFi hotspot nearby: True, 3BB offer pay as you go WiFi services as do the mobile providers.

Cellular data may address some application requirements, but without an understanding of your requirements, it would be challenging to make specific recommendations. There are some limited volume/unlimited speed offers, and some unlimited volume/limited speed (1, 2, 4 Mbps) offers. Cellular data can also have issues in taller buildings here.

capped at 4 Mbps, or for ~1,100/month an unlimited volume capped at 10 Mbps.

The only other provider offering unlimited is ToT, but only 3Mbps and more expensive (and i think only 3G).

It is useless to quote the price sans V.A.T.

Someone topping up 550 baht and then trying to add the package will fail..

 

Rather than just suggesting packages willy nilly, it's best to see which provider offer the best service in the particular location.

 

In one apartment, DTAC offered me a full 20 Mbps connection, where DTAC and Truemove H were somewhat below.

 Just checked the true website again, you are basically right, before i just had a look at the prepaid packages.

Truemove offers indeed a postpaid unlimited no slow down package, at 1900 a month with 12 months contract, but that's of course kinda expensive

I couldn't find any prepaid package with no slow down, could you?

In addition, Truemove H had some new 6 month and 12 month packages. You had to apply by the 2nd of January.

 

6 months of 1 Mbps for 642 baht.

12 months of 1 Mbps for 1284 baht.

 

6 months of 4 Mbps and unlimited free calls for 1498 baht.

12 months of 4 Mbps and unlimited free calls for 2675 baht.

Dtac prices are also without Vat, so for example the unlimited 10mbps package is 266.43 and not 249. And it would really surprise me if the prices mentioned on the True website are including the VAT.

 

I really tried to find to find the True unlimited prepaid package, maybe i'm just blind, but i couldn't find it anywhere.

It should probably be here: http://truemoveh.truecorp.co.th/upgrade_option/category/data/prepaid but i couldn't find it there and also not on other parts of their homepage. Can you post a link to it?

Nope. The DTAC 10 Mbps package is 212.93 baht inclusive of V.A.T.

 

My point to you is if you are going to quote prices to assist a relative newcomer, you should quote the actual price.

Just top up and whilst connected to the Truemove H network, navigate to the page using a Browser and click on the relevant promo and again to confirm.

If only 3G, your speed will be capped to 4 Mbps. In that case, it would be cheaper to subscribe to a 4 or 6 Mbps package.

Actually i can read Thai, but this doesn't help me if i can't find this page that you linked now (I still don't know how you get from truemoveh.com to this page, especially because it's only a mobile version)

And you also have to make sure that 4G is really faster than 3G at your location / network cell.

With the 6Mbps AIS package here at my condo at the daytime i have 6Mbps with 4G and 3G

But in the evening the 4G speed goes down to 2Mbps and with 3G i still have 6Mbps.

I can see there is a lots of options to choose. I'll check three of them, Ais Dtac and True prepaid with best packages.

If the internet will be still too slow, I'll order fixed Wi-fi.
