Video: What's that all about!? Police and military raid cock fighting arena but its owned by them!

Thai media asked what was going on after a big military and police raid on a southern Thailand cock fighting arena on Friday.

The raid on the Lamae arena in Chumporn resulted in the arrest of 148 gamblers wagering on the popular country sport - yet a sign outside the arena showed that a police underling and a military man were the owners.

There were quite a lot of smiling faces as the 148 were shown on video being loaded onto several trucks and taken into Lamae police station as the cocks (the chickens) were set to have a day off.

The sign outside proclaimed that the "Lamae Cock Fighting Arena" is fair, up to standards with scrupulous referees. There are great cocks of all abilities and it's really fun - the place to be every Friday, says the sign.

At the foot of the sign the police constable and military owner and their phone numbers are clearly visible.

77Jowo asked in the headline what it was all about without providing any concrete answers.

Though they did say that the arena - originally licensed for seven meets - had in fact had 28 meets over the last seven months.

Thaivisa notes that cock-fighting goes on openly throughout the country. There is a huge industry surrounding the activity and prized fighting cocks can be worth as much as a million baht. Most people go to bet on the outcome of fights and though it is illegal to do so a blind eye is usually shown by the authorities.

Obviously, the duo here have a lot of extra time on their hands....

with one not having to worry about actually enforcing any laws....

and the other not having to worry about fighting any wars or defending the country from anything....

So what else should they be doing???

like what??????????????????????

Where to start, in two decades

- Infrastructure and roads vastly improved.

- Suvarnabuhmi successfully completed and put into operation

- Bangkok is way, way cleaner and much more pleasant than 20 years ago.

- Power cuts and brown outs are irregular, 20 years ago almost daily.

- Medical care is way better

- Internet is modern and fast

- Large modern shopping malls in every large town

- Modern convenience stores everywhere. 20 years ago......

- the banking system is better than the UK

- Makro, Big C, Home Pro are everywhere. 20 years ago we were dealing with comparatively filthy Chinese run shops.

plus plus plus

Maybe you were not around then?????

It appears to be a well established venue - where is the TSPCA?

Animal fighting[edit]

Killing animals according to religious ceremonies or beliefs and animal fighting according to local custom, such as cockfighting, is still permitted under the Prevention of Animal Cruelty and Provision of Animal Welfare Act.[6]

Certainly a puzzler - animal fighting is legal but gambling on the outcome is not.......?

The way to stop gambling on this disgusting "sport" is to outlaw it entirely. Betting on which of two animals will inflict the most damage on the other is about as low on the Richter scale of human behavior as one can get.

The BTS and the subway system, the expressways and many of the highways and rural roads, when I first came here 25 years ago I was building the 1G network for AIS and DTAC, they are now past 3G, into 4G and testing 5G. There was little in the way of the internet and now you can use it almost anywhere in Thailand.

If you want more just look around you.
