Hi Guys,

Sorry if this has been asked, I have about 40 kilos of busines, marketing and avdertising books I want to ship to thailand as I will be relocating there next month. What is the cheapest way to ship around 40 kilos of books? How much would it be approx?

Thanks

mmm...sorry I can't help...but I have about 1,000kg of books to potentially ship over. Is it worth it? more importantly, what will I get stung for this end? The few people who I've spoken to have all said that whatever the shipping agent says, you pay again!

thanks

For anything over $150 worth of books, the customs charge is 35% of the cost of the book. Fake invoices are no good because customs estimates the worth of the books themselves, so you have NO idea of what tax you will pay until customs tells you. There are other charges as well, but customs is the main one.

If you are from the US it is called an "M" bag. I am sure the UK, Canada etc all offer the same service however.

It is surface book rate shipping in a mail bag. Uninsured to Thailand, unfortunately. That said, I ship books to myself this way every year and have only ever lost one bag. Min 15 lbs, max 60 but I usually put about 35-40 lbs in a bag so as to save the people at the post office. In the US it works to about a dollar a lb. There are several kinds of M bags on offer, perhaps the higher priced ones offer insurance.

I bundle about 4-5 same size books in a plastic bag, tape it well and then label it with my name and address in Thailand. Do this with all the books. Also, make sure the shipping label is firmly tied to the bag. Customs tax is zero.
