Unless a Thai male is a Thai Muay Thai fighter who has grown up or has developed self-confidence, the default behavior of Thai men seems to be brutalizing those who they can brutalize, using a weapon if you can't face an equal, or encouraging your friends to engage in a group beat-down of someone who may be your equal. 
That's my definition of cowardliness.

I am NOT saying he does not deserve being punished or what that punishment should be - but with out understanding to some extent his illness would be irresponsible.

Mental illness or not this man should not have access to the general public. No child deserves that.

Totally agree...See many things in Thailand but this against an innocent child makes my blood boil. What the hell is going on with Thai men?...Or they are lazy...or they are psychotic.  And during their rare enlighted  moments they are just corrupt...Government should focus more on education and drug abuse...

My understanding of many other articles it that 

Mental health issues don't exist 

It's only foreiners that have this illness

The extent of his illness means jack #%@t. The child doesn't care if the mans mentally ill or not all he knows is he had the crap kicked out of him by a"man". Try looking at this through the eyes of the child. 

The offender doesn't need hanging he needs to initially be removed from society so that he can't hurt anyone else and then treated if possible. 

Offences against children are reprehensible in any culture.

Sorry, but the dash cam is facing straight ahead but when they play it on the computer they move the phone to different angles so on the phone recording you get the picture of the pavement.

If you look at the video you will see the windows taskbar at the bottom of the picture when it starts

I can't disagree, this was a sad, dastardly act, visited upon a wee lad, in the company of his dear gran.

 

However, continued demonization of Thais in general when this is clearly a sick man saddens me. Many of us live in dear old Thailand because we love it, its people, and the occasional foray into boundless debauchery. 

 

Many dear Thais will share our abhorrence of this act. Can we not reflect on the many fine, upstanding, kind and wonderful Thais in our circle and wish this mentally deranged man full and complete recovery?

lets face it in another country this bully would not see daylight for at least 18 months to 2 years,and whilst he waited for trial he without doubt would be on remand somewhere.In some cases where the magistrates are a little quicker he would not be remanded he would go down that day,and he would not forget his experience,because every time the cons got a chance he would get what he rightly deserves.Never mind he should be treated,the only treatment a lunatic like that is worthy of is a good kicking every possible time, like every day.Obviously more work in an aspro.

But what stood out here for me was the forgiving attitude of the Grandma. It happened..... he's in custody.....lets move along. 

 

Pity we are not the same in the West. Police, social services, lawyers, PTSD "experts" , psychologists, child trauma specialist, counselling, etc, etc. And that's just for the kid!

Not in Thailand it isn't, perhaps in the west.

Certainly didn't looked stressed or tired to me..he kicks the boy as though it was just something to do while out for a stroll. Goes on walking as though nothing happened. Lock him up for sure because the next child he kicks might die. 

To me it does not matter if he has a mental problem or not. He should be removed from the streets so that he cannot ever do this to another child and possibly kill the next child. If it is proven that he has a mental problem then he should be placed in a mental institute and be treated if he does not have a mental problem then he should be sent to prison.

That child could have hit his head on the pavement and died from a brain injury like many other people have from coward punches, this time it was a coward kick to the neck
