Want to rip my wifes CDs to MP3 so she can listen on the MP3 player. I might also want to rip to other formats.

Before I had a small program for that, which name I can't remember, but at new installing WinXP it went away.

I searched Internet and Two Cows but found zillions of programs.

Any experiences with nice programs which also have some settings and are free?

Please recommend something.

Just make sure to set mediaplayer so it rips to MP3. I think by default it'll rip to WMA, which might not be supported on some mp3 devices!

Mediaplayer will also detect your MP3 player, so you can set up lists to be automatically transferred to your device (the sync function)

Windows Media Player will do the job.

Just select Rip on the tool bar at the top.

Never using Media Player for anything, I guess I still have the stoneage version on my PC.

Any freeware?

I use iTunes for this purpose (I have a basic mp3 player not an iPod). Just import it as an Mp3.

iTunes works great.

Just go to settings->Advanced->Import and set it to MP3/high quality (192 or 256).

Free download from Apple website.

Yep, I downloaded db power amp the other day (it was suggested on one of these threads) and it converts all my existing wma files to mp3 without a hitch. Freeware too! :o

edit: additionally, it provides clear and conscise data tagging (IDv1/2) features... brilliant.
