BANGKOK, 22nd January 2018 (NNT) - The number of new businesses registered with the government in 2017 reached a record high of 74,517 companies, following the government's business promotion and infrastructure investment.

Director-General of the Department of Business Development, Kunlani Itdisai said today that 6,305 new companies registered their businness with the government by December 2017, an increase of 43% compared to the same period of the previous year. Most of the companies are real estate businesses, followed by gold shops and general construction companies. Their combined registered capital is 146,984 million baht.

In 2017, the number of new companies registered with the government increased by 16% compared with 2016. The increase is higher than the department's forecast of 70,000 companies.

The Director-General said that last year many companies registered mainly due to the government's measures to support entrepreneurs and SMEs as well as the measures to stimulate public investment.

As for this year, the department expects that the number of new companies registered with it will number only 75,000 companies. Most of them will again be in the construction and real estate sectors due to the government's investment in infrastructure development.
