Buying Office 2016

OK so the new laptop is promoting me to buy the Office suite as my 30 days are almost up.  What is the best, safest, cheapest way of doing this? Buy right from Microsoft, get friend or relative to buy key and send me the number or is there a good local option?

Depends how comfortable you are with on-line transactions, maybe check you have an internet security program set up first. Buying from Microsoft would be a safe and secure option, subject to the security of your laptop.

Getting a friend to buy a key would still be subject to an online purchase, its their credit card not yours. Also a small risk of buying a key that may be a single language, geographically locked, specific for the product in the country of purchase.

Other than that, you could buy a key at a local reputable retail outlet.

I bought two (2) Office Pro 2016 licenses on eBay earlier this month. One was $13.99, the other was $11.13.

I've never tried this or even looked on ebay for them yet. Curious why they are so cheap / how do we know if legit and the difference between these and the non legit torrent based keygens/activators?

There have been a few threads here on this subject. That's how I learned about these.

I think the EU courts have ruled (against Microsoft) that licenses can be resold. So as PCs get recycled the SW licenses can be resold. Hence most sellers are in the UK and Eur, and the low prices. Legitimacy should not be an issue.

Sites like SCDKey and Kinguin are also options, although these may be bulk OEM licenses and a bit more expensive.

If you're wary, avoid.

My story very similar to above...bought 3 licenses off eBay over a year ago for around $15 each...all retail licences...all activated here in Thailand no problem and are still working fine on my 3 computers (and will continue to do so). As talked above licences in the EU can be legally resold which has greatly lowered their prices.

nope, most of those keys are coming from Microsoft Imagine (was called Dreamspark before) which gives technically practically unlimited number of licenses to "students" in universities.. generate hundreds of those and sell them for a few dollars = $$$

I bought a whole bunch of them over the years and they have other stuff too, including Windows Server, Visual Studio, Visio, Photoshop, Illustrator, Premiere, After Effects, etc.
