A most interesting diatribe, part fiction, part fact and plenty of opinion, just the sort of thing that is given away free at supermarket checkouts in the US, and shortly afterwards litters the surrounding car parks.

Just one thing - could you explain the meaning of 'scruppulous'? I can't find it in the dictionary.

Absolutely rubbish. If you have your assets in your name NOBODY can touch them.

Just a brain dead mantra repeated by those without a bean to their name emoji5.png

In Thailand ?  Brain dead people without any money have few problems in Thailand as they are not an attractive target.  You have to have money to be a target in Thailand.    What is your point again ?

Edited by yellowboat

Completely beside the point. He was charged by Thai law, therefore he must be guilty. :stoner:

In Thailand ?

Yes. Show me one example of anyone having their assets stolen in THEIR NAME.

Of course fools with joint bank accounts and who bought a house in wifeys name are excluded.

Fraud happens here of course like anywhere else in the world that's to be expected

Once you've built up something in Thailand that's worth having, it's easy to get dragged into all sorts of crap to try and comply with officialdom. That includes stuff that we would consider as "normal living". I know from personal experience that this isn't confined to bar girl wives. My wife is a teacher I ended up in a similar situation and ended up having to move myself to work in China for 5 years. Exactly the same kind of story as this guy. It works like Brick Bats. The deeper you Wade in to save yourself the tighter the Gordion knot. Back in UK now still alive at the moment but not for long. Wasted life was my lesson and epitaph.

Just $3000 a month pension. We should all marry Norwegians.

Three thousand dollars a month in not an unusual retirement. You have to remember that the man is Norwegian and Norway, as well as other economically-advantaged countries in Europe, have higher average incomes and pensions than, for example, the UK. I know many expats with $3k/mo or better retirement. Yet, I realize there are many expats here in retirement who do earn that much and cannot even qualify for the retirement extension based on an income of only $2k/mo. Americans earn less on average than Norwegians, yet any American with a well-paying job for 35 years can make at least $2k/mo or more in just Social Security; just as any US military retiree at E-6 (staff sergeant) or any higher rank with just 20 years can make $2k/mo or more--and any E-9, W-3, O-3 or any higher W or O rank with 20 years can make $3k/mo or more.

So, there appear to be more than just Norwegians some people should marry.

B10M is only a little over $300k. Any financial advisor will tell you to have more than that for retirement. As I explained in another post, the man is Norwegian and they have better incomes and pensions than many other Europeans.

3000 USD A MONTH !!!! WISH I HAD 3000 DOLLARS A MONTH AND HE IS COMPLAINING ?????  nobody knows what he was doing to get 10 million baht alot of these guys will hide their past to get pity , why would i pity a guy on 3000 USD A MONTH ???? AND THE OLD SAYING IS A FOOL AND HIS MONEY ARE SOON PARTED !!

He may be true or false--- I do not know the whole story, but, If I had lost all my money and was left with a 3,000 dollar a month pension I would be a hell of a lot better off than I am now,and still being able to have a comfortable life I could start to live it up!!!!!!!!!!!!

Are you freakin` serious?

You can barely get a condo in urban districts in Norway for 10 mill bath. Thousands of Norwegians before him have transferred that kind of money or more into Thailand. No big deal.

Get real, man.

What`s wrong with people?

it does not say how he got that kind of money he could have been a drug dealer in thailand for all you know your assuming he got it legitimately

Luck  of the draw

You had me until the last line.  I cannot see how luck is the key. Do you not think or plan?

This is the .... I have ever read on Thai Visa.

Are you from this planet hottrader77?

Just to comment on one of your "brilliant" theories: 10 million Baht is not a big sum of savings for a 50 or 60 year old Norwegian. And yes, I am a Norwegian.

How long have you been in Thailand hottrader77? Have you read the numerous similiar stories of farangs beeig ripped off in Thailand with joint efforts from wives, corrupt police, corrupt lawyers and corrupt state officials? Or do you need me to point you too them?

And do you think you will receive fair treatment from the Thai justice-system (what a joke that word is) if you ever encounter a problem with a Thai?

who said he got the money from norway ? he could have been a drug dealer in thailand and come here with no money , you do have people on the breadline in norway or did you not look on the sidewalk

We've all heard these stories before. The thing I don't understand is,  why would anyone invest 10 million+ baht in Thailand, given the constant stream of similar stories like the Norwegian guys?

I would never get involved with a Thai girl and buy houses and cars,in Thailand . 90% of the time, it ends in disaster for the farang.

A fool and his money.......

The story was up in the news before, December 8th last year, where ThaiVisa News brought it under the headline: "Norwegian man says Thai wife and policeman lover framed him and got him deported", based on a Thai article in TNews.

At that time the story about the gun was:

Quote

Tnews said that he had lost everything - 34 rai of land, a Mercedes Benz and another car, motorbikes, cash. But worst of all he has not seen his son for two years and now he is desperate for help.

Trouble started in May 2013 when police arrived during a party at his house in Tha Bor district of Nong Khai.

They found a .38 gun under the seat of a car. He had no licence for the gun.

He denied it was his and believes it was planted.

He paid 80,000 to a policeman to get him off the rap even though he said he was innocent. But the matter still came to court.

Then he was picked up off the street while walking his dog - this time was the charge of causing annoyance to neighbors by threatening them with a knife.

He believed these were trumped up charges at the behest of his wife. On the video he called her a greedy, stupid woman. She has disappeared with the deeds, the vehicles, his son - everything has gone, he said.

He spent hundreds of thousands on a female lawyer who proved useless.

All his own efforts to locate his wife and child failed - then he was deported.

Plenty of 35 year old guys with 25 year old girls here... I'd wager most of them don't use viagra or have grey hair.   ATM machine?  Maybe the numbers dwindle a bit.  But I think there's a difference between a normal relationship where the guy earns more so pays more for meals, rent etc, and a relationship where the guy actually pays his girlfriend to be there.

I went to dinner with a multi-millionaire once and everybody just assumed he would pay, nobody else offered.  Same same.

I once went to lunch with a multi-millionaire and everybody except me just assumed he would pay. I paid. The multi-millionaire offered me the best job I ever had. Sometimes it pays to not be so cheap.

Sorry but i disagree with you, i am 20 years older than my 2nd Thai wife.

We are perfectly happy together.

If as you say headaches will come sooner or later, she would have left me when i was 7 months in hospital, and told i would never walk again.

She has been my rock, pushing me, encouraging me, washes, cleans, basically does everything for me.

Good on ya mate ,I am in the same boat--- and happy

Bloody hell! You must be the next Sherlock Holmes. And all this knowledge about a person you never once met, just from hidden hints and clues in the story. Any 68 year old Norwegian worth 10 million bath must be a drug dealer. I'm sure of it! Specially taken into consideration what salary he must have had to get his meagre pension.

Like I said: age diff of 10yrs might work out but once you get into +15 yrs diff and you are asking for headaches that will come sooner or later.... simple only a matter of time.....

As I have already said; my wife of almost 40 years is almost 20 years my junior. I am still waiting for her to rip me off in any way. She takes care of me in all ways and has always contributed financially to our relationship.  While your tale of woe may be true for many; it is not true for all.

Thailand!  Just give it up and start a new life and try not to fall into the same hole again.

I know easier said than done.

ATM cards and online banking make it very easy, when PINS and passwords are left lying around.

Had a case recently where a Father and young son had a joint bank account. Father died, Mother had serious gambling debts, and with the aid of a lawyer had the money transferred to her.

I think mum gets all the assets? A lawyer still has to follow law.

In any case fraud will happen anywhere just look at the billions lost in ponzi schemes and REMEMBER IT WAS IN THE WEST

The term dont investment more than blah blah is just a brain dead mantra simpley because it applies to EVERY country [emoji5]

Massive age gap, in and out of prison, investing amounts of money into the country that he will later complain about, wife cheating on him, obviously not the smartest guy. The gun is even more moronic. Don't accept a real gun in the house unless you or the wife have the relevant papers for it.

The constant moaning about corruption on this forum is incredibly boring (whether it be government/women related).  Yes, Thailand is a developing country. Yes, sometimes corruption will rise its head (like every developing country). But that is the side effect you get for the positives you receive when deciding to live in a developing country. Deal and plan for it it as you wont be able to change it. If you are stupid enough to be taken for a ride then really the blame is on you for not planning properly. In that instance learn from it and move on with life, rather than constantly living in the past and saying the exact same negative comments on every single thread.

Perhaps these people are making these remarks, due to their experience and knowledge, of living in Thailand for a length of time. It’s not a question that corruption will SOMETIMES raise it’s head in Thailand. It’s a fact that corruption is very heavily ingrained throughout all levels of Thai society. That’s not to say that all Thais agree with it,or that all Thais are bad people. They simple understand, that they cannot change the system, and therefore keep their heads down, and hope that they they can live their lives in piece.

Absolute correct you are!! O agree with you 100%, no love there when she has to sleep with the man older than her father....love of money maybe... yet we are so naive and gullible thinking that our individual case is different.... how absurd we old men are! Would we as young men get into a relationship with women say 20 yrs older when we were in our early thirties..? . I would not

I will agree with you, that I would’t have  even contemplated living with a women 20yrs older than myself. Likewise I would never contemplate, now that I am much older, living with a women who is only 20yrs younger. We are all different, and that goes for both men and women.

You have hit the nail on the head Mr. Love.  There was at least one or more cases where forgery as taken place and restitution was lackluster.  Reliance on local courts and law enforcement for your safety would be considered foolish as well.  Thais do not bring money into Thailand if they can help it.  Why would anybody?  Many Thais have accounts in Singapore or Hong Kong.
