Good morning

i am not sure if this has been touched on in previous threads.

i hold a Thai Elite 5 yrs membership expiring february 2022.

there is a new Immigration arrival card to complete, i just returned from Vietnam 29th january 2018 into Survarnabhumi airport.

one Box States "Duration of Stay" - as i was uncertain what to complete i left it to the immigration guy to fill out showing him

my Thai Elite visa.... (other box for reason stay "Retired Resident" i wrote...)

he issued me with 1 year stay until 28th january 2019. (i have also sent a message to Thai Elite in Bangkok and awaiting their

long overdue reply now.....)

is this correct i should only get 1 year when i have a visa expiring february 2022.. i assume this means i would need to then leave

prior to this date and return the next day assuming i just fly down to singapore and stay overnight and when i return they will

reissue another years stay .... seems pretty silly when i have a 5 yr visa.... or maybe there is something in the Thai Elite

regulations i have over looked....

a friend travelling with me held a retirement visa which was just renewed and had 11 months to go he wrote of course the date his

visa expires and this was ok....

anyone had a similar question of issue..

thanks

Hi Joe

yep 100 pct right i just re-read the Thai Elite broucher .... and as i finished Thai Elite Memberservices

sent the same reply. i just need to leave and return prior to 28th january 2018 and each time it resets

for another 12 months ... it was more confusing as to the duration i had intended to stay in thailand

box i had to complete also so that answers thats..

muchos gracias

I was interested in obtaining one of these 5 year Visas even though to me it is costly.

My reason being I suffer greatly from PTSD and fronting these guys in immigration always get me adrenalised.

However if one has to leave the country or front up every year seems a bit of a waste of dosh

May I ask?

With the 5 year Visa do u still need re-entry permits?

With the 5 year Visa do you still need to do 90 day reporting?

Thank you

No, it's multi entry.

Yes.

There is no need to re-entry permits during the 5-year validity of the visa. It might be possible to get a further 6th year out of the visa by re-entering Thailand just before the visa expires. In that case, you would need re-entry permits to keep that final permission to stay intact after the visa has expired.

90-day reports are needed. You can probably do them online without the need to see anyone in immigration. You can have someone do the 90-day report on your behalf. In Bangkok, you can have Thailand Elite do the reports for you.

and I believe every year you have to pay what is it.. 1900 baht for the next year extension?

Not needed unless you don't leave and re-enter the country for a year.

It seems to me that with the cost of this Visa that all one gets is the relative certainty that you have 5 years time to stay.

I say this because the 90 day reporting is required. Agreed it is multi entry so no re-entry permit is required.

Sure players who cannot get a marriage visa/extension or a retirement Visa/extension and have a bit of extra dosh these specials are the go, but for a retired or married to Thai I think best to stay with the Non-O and yearly extensions.

Just my opinion from reading the facts above.

Regards.

And just more bit to my chat above.

If you can afford it and can arrange it get the yearly extension but at the same time buy a multi entry and re-entry permit at the same time. Sure that costs extra....3800 baht ... but you are flexible then regards traveling outside the country borders.

Regards.

I looked at the Thailand Elite "Scheme" at length and, as it offers very little benefits over the non-immigrant options, especially if you live out of town, I came to the conclusion, that the "customer" base for it, should be those people who (have to) stretch the tourist visa (exemption) system. And, remember we are Thailand, what will happen to the "system"  when its "sponsors" end up at the receiving end of politics.
