He has his hand in his pocket just before he touches the tree. He could just as easily be placing money on the tree, as taking it. I have looked at this video a couple of times now and the last thing that happens before he leaves is his left hand goes from pocket to tree, then he leaves. If he was taking something it would be the other way around. Too inconclusive, however doesn't stop everyone on here from having him hung drawn and quartered.
