Financial proof for O visa

Featured Replies

Hi,

An Australian friend intends to apply for an O visa for his forthcoming long-term visit to Thailand. What are the current requirements, especially proof of finance? Thanks for your replies!

Where will he apply for the non-o visa and upon what basis?

Thanks for your prompt reply Joe. My friend is from Melbourne, but I've read here on TV that Melbourne Consulate doesn't issue O visas anymore. I guess he will apply by post, if possible, from the Royal Thai Embassy in Canberra. At the end of his stay he wants to convert his O visa to Retirement.

He will not be able to get a non-o visa for being 50 or over in Australia. The embassy in Canberra and the official consulate in Sydney will only issue a OA long stay visa. Select Australia on this page and you will see retirement visa on the menu that has the requirements for the OA visa. http://canberra.thaiembassy.org/Home/visa

The best thing for him to do is get a single entry tourist visa and then apply for a change of visa status to get a 90 day non immigrant visa (category O) entry at immigration. Then during the last 30 days of the 90 day entry from the visa apply for an extension of stay based upon retirement. Requirements for visa application are here. https://www.immigration.go.th/content/service_80
