Pattaya’s garbage crisis expands to Naklua

PATTAYA:--Pattaya’s garbage crisis expanded to yet another neighborhood last month with residents of Naklua’s Rongmaikeed Community complaining that the city has left 800 tons of refuse there to rot.

 

Neighborhood President Boonma Fungrak said Jan. 31 that since last year Pattaya had contracted with a local rubbish-collection firm to temporarily park waste there before it was hauled away to a landfill for permanent disposal.

 

However, since the end of October, trash transfers have slowed and now the amount of garbage coming in is outpacing the lot’s capacity.

 

Boonma said the facility can take 300 tons of garbage a day, but now 450 tons are coming in. That has resulted in a backlog that topped more than 1,000 tons in December and now sits at 800 tons.

Perhaps someone forgot to ask the spirits to bless Pattaya, as it's just more bad news on top of all the other bad news for the past few years!

 

News flash to city hall, it's going to take more than rounding up a few beach hookers and a few big malls to sort out the steaming pile of effluent that Pattaya is becoming. Garbage everywhere, the Waterfront eyesore, the broken marina, the broken Bali Hi car park, the speedboats parked all over, the shocking traffic, the vanishing beach, the collapsing beach promenade, the floods when it showers, the vanishing expats, the zero baht tsunami, and the cops banning everything in sight ( like darts )- it's all looking rather bad for the future of the "Riviera on Pattaya Bay" that they used to have wet dreams about.

 

Never mind, I'm sure they can find something to make themselves look foolish to take people's minds off the real problems, like banning walking without a permit in Pattaya.

Maybe they could stop the foreigners visiting the coral reefs and take them to the never ending pile of Thai garbage on the tour circuit ?

150 tonnes per day more than can be dumped in the ground. And Chinese New Year and Songkran upon us to swell the visitor numbers.

Simple rank incompetence of the authorities to handle a perennial problem. Other countries would address the problem, here those in charge head for the golf course.

I am beginning to understand why pattaya has a ''shopping center fixation'',as it slowly chokes itself to death,with bad air from filthy tour buses , beaches that are nothing more than boat launches and mountians of garbage...we can always hang out at the mall..
