Work permit issue

Featured Replies

Hi folks

Ok, so I am teaching in Thailand, since last year. The school has set the work permit to expire right at the end of the contract 31st march which means immigration have set

the visa to expire  on the same date. I've seen a similar post, about this, but it refers to a non B. I'm not sure what my visa becomes after I get my work permit.

The answer I saw stated that you should go to immigration either before or on the day the work permit expires and they will grant you 7 days to exit the country. However people at my work mention cancelling the work permit at immigration and getting 15 days or even 30 tourist visa to replace it. The other guy at work  says you should just leave the country on the day everything expires. which with two suitcases would obviously be very stressful especially if there are problems with final salary etc. I don't know what he'd do with a 40" TV that's for sure lol.

I entered in Feb. 2017, have had a 60 and 90 day before that, then I converted in a non b  in Laos three months later this became the work permit and ive been on this ever since.

So what exactly happens?, I'm in the korat area.

You have an extension of stay based upon teaching issued by immigration not a visa. Your extension ends on the date your job ends.

You could get a termination letter from the school to take to immigration few day before the date on the letter and immigration would post date the cancellation of your extension.

If you plan on staying in the country longer you could go to Vientiane to get single entry tourist visa that would give you a 60 day entry that can be extended for 30 days. Or you could do a border run to leave and re-enter the country to get a 30 day visa exempt entry that can be extended for the 30 days.
