There seems to be some very basic misunderstanding here. Or maybe you are Saudi? Or Jeff Sessions? What gives here? Why such a fabulous degree of ignorance? "Junkie - someone who is addicted to illegal drugs", so the poster is somewhat correct. Who's to say whether this guy is addicted or not. Nevertheless, he was in possession of illegal drugs in Thailand, hence the arrest. 1 2
sambum
"Foreign manager of Koh Phangan hostel faces deportation for cannabis possession" I wonder If he'd been British if the headline have read the same? Especially as the first line of the article specifies his nationality:- A Lebanese man who is the manager of a guesthouse on Koh Phangan has been arrested for drug offences. A corrupt, illegal government that is completely out of step with a changing world? Pot does little harm to anyone. The biggest risk is the the user will lose his ambition. Compared to alcohol the detriment to society is minuscule. Only the Jeff Sessions and the Little P's. of the world continue to pursue these draconian convictions. The only reason why ganga is illegal in Thailand is due to the fact that legalization would make the police franchises less valuable. That is it. It ends there. This has nothing whatsoever to do with morality or character development. Quite the contrary. And to lump a pot smoker into the same category as a heroin addict is just plain old ridiculous and ignorant of the facts. 5

I bet some monies changed hands here To have or deal in any illegal drug is a bit silly. He should have left that to the Thais & if customers asked just make a phone call

In the absence of this damning evidence I wonder how long they would have searched until they found a Pack of Playing Cards or a Dart-board etc... something, anything.... If it was not opperating legally should it not be closed or forced to get legal. Thete must be others who are opperating legally despite what the cynics say. This isn't about stopping illegal activity. It's about keeping the proceeds off all the illegal activity to themselves. The money the authorities get for allowing places like Mellow Mountain to sell this stuff I'm sure is no joke. I'd estimate that bar alone grosses close to 2,000,000 Baht/night in mushroom shakes alone during full moon period nights. They make decent coin of joints too. No way the police are letting the Burmese that run that place keep all those proceeds to themselves. They are just their dirty cop enforcers, cracking down on the competition, and publishing the stories to make it look like they are doing their job so they can keep taking all the dirty money. 3

There was a rule change in 03/2016 under Section 44: Soldiers from the rank of sub-lieutenant up have been given police powers to summon, arrest and detain suspects by an order under Section 44 of the interimcharter. They are also authorised to conduct searches, seize assets, suspend financialtransactions and ban suspects from travelling. Soldiers can search any property they believe is linked to suspects or their assets. The searches can be conducted on individuals and vehicles. Searches can also be conducted without warrants when there are grounds to believe that suspects could flee before a warrant is obtained. All officers from the three armed services with the rank of sub-lieutenant and higher become crime suppression officers with lower ranks acting as assistants. You do not seem to be okay with the fact that he's from Lebanon, right? Since when should "pushers' be deported or jailed? Who are the real people, you? And that in a time where many countries legislated it because they found out that it's nothing that kills. Exactly the opposite. giddyup
There's a bottomless pit of Yaba and Ice coming across the border from Myanmar, literally tons of it, and it's either creating or supplying thousands of addicts, yet the police seem more intent on busting someone with a miniscule quantity of a relatively harmless drug.
