A heavily intoxicated man driving under the influence of marijuana crashed his car into a power pole and refused to leave the vehicle, instead choosing to cuddle with his dog and cat while smiling at officers. The incident occurred yesterday at approximately 10.46pm in Soi Wat Boon Sumpan 9, Nong Prue Subdistrict, Bang Lamung District, Chon Buri Province.

 

Police from Nong Prue Police Station and rescue volunteers from Sawang Boriboon Thammasathan Pattaya responded to the scene. They found a Suzuki Ciaz which had veered off the road and collided with a high-voltage power pole.

 

The car sustained significant damage, but the driver, a 27 year old Hong Kong national, appeared unfazed by the accident. He remained inside the vehicle, hugging his dog and cat, seemingly in a state of blissful slumber.

 

Efforts by officers and residents to rouse the driver were unsuccessful. After about 20 minutes, they resorted to the laborious task of dragging him out of the car. Throughout the ordeal, the man continued to smile serenely, as if unaware of the gravity of the situation.

 

A friend of the driver, 23 year old Patipan, recounted that the Hong Kong man had been smoking marijuana with friends. Once he was heavily under the influence, he attempted to drive back to his accommodation.

 

However, due to his inebriated state, he parked the car haphazardly, obstructing local residences.

 

Patipan, concerned for his friend’s safety, followed him and tried to persuade him to move the vehicle, as it was causing inconvenience to the residents.

 

The Hong Kong man reluctantly resumed driving but declined Patipan’s offer to accompany him. This decision ultimately led to the crash.

 

Police have taken the Hong Kong man into custody for a breathalyser test to determine his blood alcohol content. They are also working to clear the wrecked vehicle from the scene to restore normal traffic flow for the affected area, ensuring that residents can use the road without further hindrance, reported Khaosod.

 

The incident highlights the dangers of driving under the influence of substances, as well as the unexpected behaviours that can result from such actions.

            So now one can be determined to be "heavily under the influence" of cannabis purely on the word of a friend?   but one needs to be properly tested at a police station for alcohol?   Seems a little unfair, I call b/s on the whole story. 

            The only things this incident has highlighted is, One, the appalling standard of journalism at the Thaiger, and, Two, The start of medias next wave of anti cannabis fairy stories that I predicted would soon follow the announcement   of the authorities intention  to recriminalize cannabis 

            It doesn't seem to matter how incredulous the story , there is no shortage of people only two willing to believe what they read in the papers or especially on line

             Incidentally as far as I am aware, this is actually the first ever "news" report alleging the contributory involvement of cannabis in a traffic incident, and it is as I said above , based purely on the words of his friend,   

             Now can somebody tell me how many instances of DUI have occured since the legalisation of cannabis , and in how many instances was a conviction secured purely on the word of an alleged drunk driver friend ?

            Is it only me that finds this rubbish an insult to one's intelligence

Hefty fine please and some months in jail will help him🙏

So as of the lack of regulation and laws that means he just had a one sided accident and is free to go, aside from maybe having to pay damages to the electric pole. Next subject. I'm pro weed, but that's where you need some proper laws for. The way it is now, or by making it illegal again, doesn't work the best.

 

I've taken out a few pilot lights and made some dents in car driving high in my years hehe.

Obviously being sober is best but I'm highly confident that being drunk while driving is much more dangerous than being stoned.

... indeed, ze Germans, well, some TV outfit carried out a practical test due to recent legalisation there, comparing moderately influenced drivers both by alc and weed, not scientific in any way, small scale but a real-life example.

 

Unsurprisingly smokers scored better due to defensive driving vs. drinkers overestimating their capabilities, driving too fast & risky in other words.

At any rate the proverbial 'child jumping out on the road without warning' which was resembled by a fat rubber ball thrown in unannounced got flattened by both of the drinkers while there was no danger of that with the smokers ...

current test methods cannot determine intoxication levels. only that it is in the persons system. this leaves too many variables for accurately testing for cannabis.

yes they have a test but it only shows that the drug is in the persons system. not the intoxication level. 

 

cannabis can stay in a persons body for up to and exceeding 30 days. so with that test in the UK i could have smoked a joint 2 weeks ago and test positive for cannabis on the roadside. 

 

when clearly i would not be intoxicated.

With puff in the UK, after a positive roadside test a blood test is done at the police station, if over the prescribed limit, you get done the same as drink-driving..
