One of THE GREAT middleweight boxers of that Golden Age of late '80s - mid 90's era. Think middleweight Mike Tyson.

Duran, SRL, Haggler, Hearns and on the other side of the Atlantic, Benn, Watson, Eubank and a bunch of others.

No such thing as boring mismatched fights in those days. Everyone a corker and a classic.

And all before the pay per view scene.

Great times, great boxers, classic fights.

He now lives in Sydney, Australia was x British Army then went into Pro Boxing, was a good honest boxer and provided an exciting spectacle when ever he fought. Never big headed, he always gave 100% in the ring. I used to love watching him with my dad back in the 80s, especially the fights against Eubank. His son has just turned Pro although in a different weight division to Eubank's son (Chris Eubank Jnr)

 

For fight fans I reckon it will be a good evening with tales about the big bouts of UK boxing history

I met Nigel a couple of times at the East Ham Swimming Baths. I think he used the gym.

I grew up in Barking it was funny because it seemed like everyone knew someone who knew him especially with my black mates.There wasn't a black kid I knew who didn't reckon his dad was mates with him it used to do my head in a bit especially when you use to see him driving around in his white BMW with Nigel Ben written on it. I think it was why when I was a bit older I always wanted Chris Eubank to knock him out.

Nice guy, spoke to him a couple of times when he was DJ'ing back home.

 

On one occasion, some drunk guy was berating him throughout the night, whilst he was on the decks. When he'd finished his set, he calmly left the stage & pinned the guy against the wall & said "I'm here to enjoy myself like everyone else, would you like to calm down or lose your teeth?". The guy calmed down.
