We have a 1 and half HP pump that runs on timer 2 hours morning and 2 hours evening. Also a 2 HP jaccuzi pump that is rarely used. In that case, I believe the cost of electric (at 4 baht per unit) for your pool alone should be about 1000/1100 baht per month.

The first mistake is to assume electric is 4 baht/unit. As it happens my electric bill just arrive right now. First 150 units @ 3.2484. Next 250 @ 4.2218. After that @ 4.4217. All plus 7% VAT. As it happens the indexed 'factor' gave a reduction of 0.1590 Baht/unit this month. I must put an electric meter on my pool pump panel as I am only guessing from balance of all the other apartment meters against the main meter. We seem to have gone way way off the original topic of 'How much it takes to live in Phuket' Edited February 16, 20188 yr by LivinginKata

I only used that as a rough government average figure; I thought everyone would realise that. And, at 4 Baht, it's close enough to amount you are paying. So your pool, running for four hours per day, should cost you between 1000 and 1200 per month including VAT.

The difference between the numbers is an inground pump versus an above ground pump, the latter using less power. http://www.clean-pool-and-spa.com/inground-or-above-ground-pump-operation-efficiency.html
February 16, 20188 yr I doubt the OP is really interested in pool electric costs. Air con electric costs seems a much more relevant topic. Edited February 16, 20188 yr by LivinginKata

Not overcrowded with tourists no touts, no stingy stuff in the water and Unlike in the sea I will only be swimming in sewage waste in case my kids decide to take a poop in the pool which is highly unlikely:) Edited February 19, 20188 yr by thaibutty
February 19, 20188 yr Don't forget to factor in a budget for payoffs. Scams, police, etc all have their hands out.

February 19, 20188 yr Popular Post Back to the OP. You don't mention what level of accommodation you have that isn't included in your $1000 a month, but presumably you wont be running a pool or many other expensive appliances. Get used to fan living because aircon costs too much on your budget. You said you will need a bike so that cost will eat into what you have. Being a non drinker is a plus, and eating out only occasionally could keep costs down. (Although, often street food is as cheap as cooking yourself) You made the mistake of asking the locals how much they live on, which started many of us babbling about our situations. Even a few from other parts of the country thought their circumstances were relevant. Basically, very few here live, or would want to live, on your budget. It's a level that usually only Thais live on, and they have resources and support not generally available to outsiders. Try it and see how you go. Good luck.

February 19, 20188 yr A pool pump, 2 fridges, two fans (on 18 hours a day), one aircon (on 6-8 hours a day), an electric oven used maybe 3-4 times a week (2 hours each time) and lighting etc costs about THB 4000 a month in Pattaya
