Fair enough, so the UK should just leave immediately as there's obviously no benefit in prolonging the agony?

edit - obviously, with no payment to the eu.

Ok, but now you have to ask yourself why the Tories have not just left immediately? Instead they've already agreed to the £50bn payment and way before the trade talks even got started.

Does that sound to you like someone negotiating from a strong position with lots of leverage or a weak position with no leverage?

It will obviously come as a shock for you to learn that the eu will also suffer by the loss of the uk....

  • Why should we waste money defending our so-called friends when all of them, with the exception of a couple of East European countries, fail to meet the NATO target of 2% of GDP spent on defence.

It will be a shock to me as the EU don't seem particularly bothered that the UK are leaving. The shock to the EU will be relatively minimal as illustrated after the Brexit result was announced, the pound plummeted to its lowest level in more than 30 years, while no such reaction from the Euro [emoji6]

The pound-dollar effect was simple currency fluctuation, the initial shock as you emphasise was 18 months ago & it's IIRC returned to expected levels.

As for the EU growth, 27 countries versus one (UK) of course a combined number of countries can be expected to improve its growth compared to one, especially as one dominant MS hasn't lost it's strength since the creation of the Euro.

If those that believe the EU won't suffer when the UK leaves, I suspect they're either mystic meg or would benefit from researching business groups & effects.

The EU ignored pleas of self reform, however being forced to improve its governance due to arrogance is yet another example why the UK choose the route it did.

I think you are being short sighted and suffering delusions of grandeur regarding the UK's position in the world.

The EU have a bigger interest in ensuring the future of the EU ;)

I could be wrong, so lets start by you bullet pointing the progress in the trade talks so far?

Quite.

Just after the referendum I brought up the subject of CE marking but it was dismissed as an insignificant issue. Recently the EC has stated that after March 19 2019 CE certificates issued in the UK will become null and void. This means that products that have been certified in the UK will have to be recertified in the EU before they can be placed on the EU market. It should also be taken into consideration that some non EU countries accept UK goods because they carry the CE mark, that business will also be affected.

Many of the smaller manufacturers will not want the hassle or the expense so are quite likely to downsize and stop exporting.
