Pattaya neglects illegal dump on Sukhumvit Soi 12

PATTAYA:--Three months after neighbors reported illegal garbage dumping on Sukhumvit Soi 12, Pattaya City Hall has done nothing to stop it, even as the trash piles up.

Residents reported in November that people had begun dumping refuse on open land on Soi Susankhao and demanded it be cleaned up and the land fenced off. Neither has happened.

Instead, the garbage has piled up to the point where it is now overflowing on to the public road and its strong odors are affecting the health of nearby children and senior citizens.

Resident Sirinan Noomak, 59, said the area used to be pleasant and tidy. People could come out and walk around and enjoy the scenery.

The Thai people are very efficient.

Most Sois in Pattaya have a little dump like this.

Why bother going to an official tip, when you can just throw it up the road like everyone else?

it is handy for the tourists also, since there are no bins around, just throw it on the pile. Thai style.

I agree with most of what you wrote but please can you let everyone know where this "official" tip is located.

Most places have official tips but you have to pay to use them even if the payment is small...just the scumbag cowboys and stingy trying to pull a fast one.

Once again, if you want a Thai government entity to do their  job, just get on Facebook. Contacting them direct does not work.

The "official" tip was at Kao Mai Keow

But the "official" tip was actually illegal, because it encroached on public land.

So then they started to use the Pattaya recycling depot to receive the rubbish as a temporary measure. Three years ago.

But that is now full.

All the rubbish collected in my village is illegally dumped.

So, there is nowhere actually to take the rubbish that is piled up on most Sois. They either burn it, unofficially of course, or dig a hole and bury it on site.

The money allocated seems to have disappeared. not sure where.

Incredibly, the solution to the Koh Larn rubbish crisis is to put it on barges to the mainland. I suspect it will conveniently just blow off into the sea, and eventually some of it will wash up to the beaches. What else are they going to do with it? Dump it in the sois?

This particular area has been a problem for over a year. They cant do anything about it, because they have nowhere to take it. Last time people complained they burnt it all.

The air is terrible around Pattaya at the moment, in part, due to the fact of these fires. If you go up high in a condo you can see the smoke rising from various rubbish piles. All day, everyday at this time of year as it doesnt rain.It is Pattaya rubbish burning season right now. The problem is there is still quite high humidity, so the fires just smoulder on. What is needed is high temperature burning.

But the official line is that the smog and smoke is "sea mist"
