Put a Window in the Roof.

I just had a loft bed put into our living room

but it's too hot up there.

I want to put a window in.

 

The roof has a  a 48 degree slope with large

concrete tiles 6mm thick on the outside.Box metal

instead of roofing timbers and thin fiber cement boards

on the inside.

 

I need a cheap option.What are my options.

I don't need glass but it would be nice.

I need mosquito mesh and to be able to close it when it rains.

 

Is there some cheap hatch method I can use.I've seen dormer

 windows done cheap here.Are there factory made Velux

windows in Thailand and how much are they.

 

Basic general information would be great.

"Cheap" and roof should not go together. What could go wrong?  I have seen roof domes that open for ventilation at the Architect Expo in Bangkok. They were not cheap.  This company offers imported building products for a price.  http://www.homebuilders.co.th/index.php?mode=product&group=18

Can I go to homepro and get a velux type thing for a

reasonable price.

Or should I get somehting purpose built at the wood dealers.

Should I do dormer style or not.

 

Can I fit it myself or do I need a carpenter.

Where do I start.What would you do.

You can go in person to speak with the SCG roofing expert inside many better Home Mart stores. Bring them photos of your current roof and see what advise they give you. Velux brand is offered in Thailand at the link I posted above. Cheap and roof should not be in the same sentence. It will not turn out well. SCG might offer an option. HomePro does not really sell building materials.  No steel, no roof tile at HomePro.

How did you get on ? did you manage to source a suitable product ?     I have Googled Velux and followed the link provided , so there is  availability . It  must allow the heat in the roof to escape and provide light for the room , so a double benefit .  Interested to hear your experience .

2 things come to mind when I look at the new awnings across the road

 

1- Is a quality product

 

2 - Is some one that ACTUALLY knows how to install them - I just watch the neighbours replace or alter the awnings, only to see them come back with a tube of Silicon 

 

Mine's not much better, but will not have them touch it - They don't understand flashing - It should be longer then 150mm when you have wind gusts pushing the rain up, & also they don't bend up the sheets under the flashing

A bit old this post, but have you tried Whirlybirds, I put two in and they take heat out, and are constantly spinning, they do work, i.e. I have stood under them and can feel the hot air being lifted out of the ceiling, some people suggest they don't work without a breeze, that said, we don't get too many breezes here, a lot of it has to do with the type of bearings they use as well.
