What needs to be done before relocating to Vietnam? Cancelling work permit, non b etc

Featured Replies

Hi guys,

My employment contract ends on the 31st March (my non b & work permit expire on this date and it's  the date that I'll be moving to Vietnam, too). I've informed my employer that i won't be renewing my contract. I don't  plan on working in Thailand again but you never know. I'll likely come back as a tourist at some point.

So, even though my contract, non-b and work permit expire on the same day, am I right in thinking that I still need to cancel my work permit? Do I need a letter from my school to do this or can I cancel it myself?  My employer can be incredibly slow at proving such paperwork. I think UbonJoe posted a link some time ago for a work permit cancellation form but the link is inactive. Once my work permit is cancelled, does this automatically cancel my non-b?

I haven't yet received my tax form from my employer which I need to pay my income tax. Will there be problems leaving or entering Thailand at a later date if I can't pay my tax?

Is there anything else that I need to do that I'm missing?

Any help or advice will be much appreciated.

If you do not plan on working here again not canceling the work permit will not be a problem in the future. Your employer can cancel it if you sign an affidavit for them to do it.

There is no automatic cancellation of your extension of stay when you stop working or the work permit is canceled.

As long as you leave before your extension ends there will be not need to be canceled it if you do not plan on working here again.

For the income taxes your employer needs to give the statement so you can submit the tax return for last year. If they have been deducting taxes from your salary you might have a refund owed you.

Just leave and it won't be a problem even if you decide to come back and work here in the future. No need to cancel an expired work permit or extension of stay.

Thank you for the info. If I do decide to cancel the work permit, am I right in thinking that I have 24 hours to leave the country or pay for a 7 day extension once it's cancelled?

Thank you for your post. However, I had colleagues who had problems when getting a work permit with a new employer because they hadn't cancelled their expired work permit from their last employer. Crazy but TiT.
