That different   It was just misunderstanding. They said sorry and hope it never happens again . I think there defence was the guy who got butchered was in the wrong place at the wrong  time. That swayed the judge nothing else

The sentence for murder under the criminal code is 15 to 20 years or the death penalty. Because of the age of the defendants and their intention was assault but not murder, they were given the maximum sentence that the law would allow. 

For rape using a weapon, the sentence is 20 years to life. The judge in both followed the laws to the maximum that they had to work with.
