Popular Post z42
A complete and utter abomination. This actually sends the message that this sort of behaviour isn't serious at all. The idiot should be shot for this ? 5
Popular Post darksidedog
We think what we see on the roads is crazy and this is why. A 500 baht fine for his performance is almost as sad as his driving. Ban the fella for a year and fine him 50,000. That might wake a few of the others out there up, who show no respect whatsoever for any emergency vehicle. 12 1
Popular Post Just1Voice
Back where I'm from, they have some of the most severe penalties for this crap anywhere in the U.S . This clown would be looking at a $5,000 dollar (155,000 Bht) fine and MINIMUM of 6 months in jail, along with forfeiture of driver's license, suspended for minimum of 3 years. 5
Popular Post ThreeEyedRaven
Extremely poor driving and extremely poor judgement by the court. Who, rightfully will curb their disgraceful driving if a 500 baht fine is all that comes their way, IF they get caught at all, which most of them don't, due to zero traffic policing? I am sure the cost to the taxpayer for the court and paperwork was way more then this paltry fine.
mercman24
this guy is a total "deleted" , we all agree, the thai courts are a joke, if you can afford to run a car you can afford a large fine. Popular Post RichCor
I've never seen anyone here pull over for a running ambulance. A police escort motorcade of HiSo VIP, sure, but not an ambulance. Very different priorities and responsibilities here. I'm not even sure why this is news.

Sure, but you are probably from a developed country where police enforce laws, judges base punishment based on actions instead of wealth and connections, and road fatalities are many times lower than here. Apples and oranges.

peperobi
That is not a real fine, he had risked the life of the ambulance crew and from the patient to...JAIL and at least 1-year drive license away.
Popular Post anon467848
A 500 baht fine is a bl??dy joke. What sort of a deterrent is that for other drivers? Impound his car for a week/month. Pointless taking away a Thais licence, they will just drive without it, assuming they have one in the first place. The driver denied being drunk, sounds like the police didn't even bother to breathalyze him. To much like hard work? Why are the Police called policemen in Thailand? Definition of police is an official organization that is responsible for protecting people and property (??), making people obey the law (??), finding out about and solving crime (??), and catching people who have committed a crime (??). Stopping people at checkpoints and collecting tea money for various misdemeanors, go to the top of the class. They are the specialists in this department. 2

nahkit
Watching the video the ambulance could of passed him a couple of times but they chose to actually switch lanes and sit behind him blowing their horn which might explain why they didn't want to pursue it further. At the plod shop in Maesai it clearly says along the front of the building 'To protect and serve ' Of course who they protect and who the serve is a matter of conjecture. Likely not you or I sir.

I saw a road accident once, no casualties, but six ambulances in attendence, why is that? Is it because the first one to get there would get the casualties, if any, to hospital for payment?

Or... due to the erratic driving being demonstrated by the scumbag, (who is either oblivious to traffic behind him, or is being deliberately mischievous) the ambulance drivers are exercising their responsibility of due care, by not risking an accident, between themselves and any other third party, by attempting to speed past, whilst clutching an amulet, and praying that the scum bag doesn’t swerve into them. Cake Monster
Just another example of the poor driving standards in this Country combined with the arrogance of the perps that know they will not get a severe fine or time in the Monkey House ( if even caught )

Oh, six ambulances, you must be HiSo with money or influence. Where I live we get offered the back of a pickup truck, or have to take ourselves on the scooter. Our local hospital is more of a clinic with sleep-over dormatory. The actual hospital is another 2-hours away in Chiang Rai ...and yet I live 5km from the border crossing. Though I must profess I enjoy many aspects of living in this recreation of the 1940's
