The Supreme Court decided, this ninth of March, to reject former CNRP president Kem Sokha’s request for release from prison on bail.


Mr Sokha’s defence team demanded that the Supreme Court immediately release their client on bail because he has health problems and needs urgent medical treatment. They confirmed that Mr Sokha has high blood pressure, severe pain in his shoulder, diabetes, and difficulties standing for long periods of time.


Supreme Court spokesman Ouk Kimsith stated that the court decided to uphold the previous decision by the Court of Appeals, confirming its validity. The Court of Appeals had, in February, upheld Phnom Penh Municipal Court’s decision to deny bail to Mr Sokha, who is charged with treason.
