Does anyone know if Bangkok Bank (Chaeng Wattana) branch still issues verification letters for Visa extension? I need to go next week and wanted to make sure before going there blind.

Yes they do.  I was there last Monday morning just before or right about 9AM and it was done pretty quickly.  I made a copy of it and I see the time stamp said it was done at 09:08.

Just a word of caution; not all accounts are catered for at CW Bangkok Bank. I have a foreign currency account, which I use for my retirement extension, and I can only get the account verification letter from Bangkok Bank in Silom.

thanks for the info on this.  i use a THB and USD account (both at the silom branch) for my extension.  i get the two letters (one for THB and one for USD) at the silom branch the day before and update the THB passbook at the CW branch so it is dated same day as my extension.  i couldn't do that with the USD passbook and the IO at the extension desk sent me down to the branch to have them update it.  fortunately they were able to do it.  i had planned to have them do the letters on my next visit but sounds like i should stick with the previous plan.  the FCA folks at silom are pretty adamant that anything going on with the foreign currency account needs to be done/dealt with at the silom branch.

why can you not just print out current statements from Internet bankimg, print out and use them.

i would like to use this method.  are these statements printed from internet banking accepted at CW in bangkok ?  i thought the letter(s) served to verify the account balance via a signature from a bank officer/employee.  then the transactions for the 3 months prior are shown via copies of your passbook.

A question please on the updating and the use of a Bangkok Bank passbook.

I very rarely do transactions on my Thai account and it's been years since I last updated the book. During this period there have probably been less than thirty transactions, which include deposits and withdrawals.

If I use the ATM style machine to update, will it be able to do so all at once or is there a time limit. If a time limit, would it be better to ask a counter staff person to do it ?

there was a discussion about this the other day.  i, like you, don't have many transactions each month.  a few TV members indicated that the update would only cover the previous 30 days and going inside the bank would not help you get access to a longer history.

a few days after the discussion i went to the passbook update machine at bangkok bank's office at exchange tower (asoke/sukhumvit), and it gave me a 90 day update. which should be sufficient if you are doing the update in connection with an extension of stay based on retirement or marriage.  i have a feeling those that get a 30 day update use their accounts more frequently.
