Popular Post webfact Posted March 20, 2018 Popular Post Share Posted March 20, 2018 Hundreds show up to receive free cash handouts which never came By Thai PBS Hundreds of people showed up at Wat That Phanom in That Phanom district of Nakhon Phanom on Tuesday after it was widely rumoured that a resident of the district who reported to have won 60-million baht from ten first-prize lottery tickets for March 16 draw would hand out three million baht worth of his fortune to whoever at the temple. The prize winner, Mr Thammawat Phraethong, is said to be a native of That Phanom district. Monks at the temple were caught in surprise with the turnout of hundreds of people – many of them sat patiently waiting on the front yard in front of the temple for the arrival of the “philanthropic” donor. Thai Buddhism places a great deal of emphasis on money and temples. When you have and encourage a culture whereby the rich and powerful dispense "gifts", you can't really blame the poor and powerless for taking them. There are indeed those that are working hard and are still poor but there are plenty that are lazy too. You should just open your eyes. One would hope that we who were raised in the west in a time of relative plenty and with a comprehensive social security net to catch us if we fell would indeed spare them a kindness.
