Well, I'm not going to get into the argument about the mental condition of the attacker but one thing is for sure; being '...just yards from the National Police HQ...' he wasn't afraid of the cops and I guess that says it all.

A year ago a nutter drove his car into people on Westminster bridge, yards from new Scotland yard.

He wasn't afraid of the cops either.

I guess but jobs generally don't worry about the police anywhere. I would imagine that the majority

of people working in a police HQ are admin staff and unlikely to react to any kind of incident.

Doesn't look like a random attack to me and he doesn't look too deranged after the attack either.

Wouldn't surprise me if there was a relationship between these two.

And just for clarity, regardless of what caused it, there should be no room in any society for attacks like this. And obviously I don't know the circumstances of the incident and the above is pure speculation from me.

He could be a lunatic. But at the same time, it's possible that he, perhaps, was just sitting on the ground, and she called him a 'bum', or something. It's normal in Thailand that certain people mumble slurs behind other people's backs because they deem them to be not rich/'white-skinned'/slim/young/hi-so... enough. Have seen it more than once how this can escalate into an ugly fight...

Being so close to their doors is a sure way to escape with infractions.   Most police ignore what happens outside their own door.. when I was a child in school.. the safest place to smoke weed was 10 feet from the front door to the police station.

Even if they catch him, do they really think a ฿500 fine will deter him next time?

I heard they've put up the fine to 1,000 Baht though. This, for more serious crimes like murder in places like Pattaya ................. :post-4641-1156694572:

Also, how did the girl's mother get the video to load to Facebook? Or did I read wrongly?

Maybe she asked for it?  Maybe the girl filmed the CCTV herself while looking at it with the police?  Maybe the police offered it to her?  Maybe the owner of the CCTV offered it to her?  So many possibilities.

Man nabbed over assault of woman metres from Bangkok police HQ

By The Nation

Police on Friday caught a man alleged to have attacked a woman from behind just metres from the National Police headquarters in Bangkok’s Pathumwan district.

Police identified him as a 39-year-old man from Phitsanulok after arresting him at Hua Lamphong train station.

The man was seen in CCTV footage using a stick to attack the young woman on Wednesday.

The footage – uploaded by the woman’s mother to Facebook – showed the woman running for her life to the police HQ where an officer helped her. She suffered minor injuries to her arm and neck and has been discharged from hospital.

Police said that the man appeared to be mentally ill in their initial questioning of him and denied being involved in the attack. Police will further interrogate him and send him to hospital for tests.

Pathumwan District Court today issued an arrest warrant against him following publication of his photo captured from the footage. The warrant is for charges of physical assault causing both physical and emotional wounds to the victim.

Daylight attack on student outside police HQ: Man arrested

Untitled.png

Image: Daily News

Police in Pathumwan, Bangkok, have announced the arrest of a Phitsanuloke man who hit a Kaset university student with a piece of metal on the footpath outside the National Police HQ.

The cops originally surmised that the assailant was insane but it turns out he just thought that pretending to be mad would get him a lighter sentence in the event of capture.

Katcharin Khlaijem, 39, said he had no money and just wanted to rob the woman.

CCTV caught the moment when he came up behind 21 year old Jaruporn Nantakit, a third year uni student. She ran off after suffered injuries to her neck and arm.

Katcharin said he had lost his job as a university security guard in Phuthamonthon Sai 4 two days ago. He was on his way to see his child but had no cash so decided to commit a robbery.

He only pretended to be mad, he said.

Police found that he has no record of any education. He has been charged with assault and attempted robbery and detained.

I saw it on Channel 3 news this morning so I guess he'll be picked up fairly quickly. You do wonder if the police would've bothered doing anything if it hadn't made social media. Probably not, I suspect.

I see now that an arrest has been made, and looking at that video seems the cop is just itching to give him a good thrashing with that stick

Good point. But I was rather referring to the current 'popularity' of the RTP, Ha!

It is so clear picture of the man why police not get him quickly or are they to busy with do nothing

The 500 policemen in the " transferred to inactive posts" room there at national headquarters were all too busy being inactive.  Now we know that having them just pound a beat around the N HQ would be a useful exercise for their fat @$$€$. Instead of just bring......inactive!!!!

Man who tries to rob a student in front of Royal Thai Police is not mentally disabled

rob.jpg

A man who was earlier thought to be mentally disabled when he was seen wielding an iron pipe and chasing at a student in front of the Royal Thai Police head office on Wednesday (March 21) has allegedly confessed that he is not insane but wanted to rob the female student.

The man, identified by police as Katcharin Klaijam, 39, was arrested by Pathumwan traffic police at Hua Lamphong railway station.

Police said that Mr Katcharin gave confusing statements to the police during the earlier stage of the interrogation. But, later on after being grilled by the police, he admitted that he was fine and he pretended to act like a mentally deranged person when he tried to rob a student, identified as 21-year old Ms Jaruporn Nantakit, hoping that if he was caught and put on trial, he could be given lenient sentence because of his mental problem.

well, in a negative way, exhibits Some thought; surely there is some mechanism in the thai justice system to test such attempted claims...
