NACC could summon Prawit on watch scandal - or terminate probe

Deputy Prime Minister Gen Prawit Wongsuwan

After four months of investigations, the National Anti-Corruption Commission (NACC) will determine whether it will call Deputy Prime Minister and Defence Minister General Prawit Wongsuwan to provide testimony in person regarding his alleged possession of multiple luxury watches.

The “invitation” to the junta leader will be made if the NACC fact-finding committee concludes that they have insufficient evidence. The committee could also decide to terminate or continue the investigation.

The NACC has handled the case since December, when social media users started publishing photos of Prawit wearing luxury watches.

About 25 watches that he has been photographed wearing are estimated to cost more than Bt30 million.

The watch collection, if determined to belong to the deputy premier and right-hand man of Prime Minister General Prayut Chan-o-cha, would constitute evidence of Prawit’s “unusual wealth” given his official salary and also his concealment of assets from the NACC. He did not declare any assets worth more than Bt200,000 to the NACC when he joined the junta government in 2014.

NACC president Pol General Watcharapol Prasarnrajkit, who has previously worked closely with Prawit, has pledged that he will not be involved in the case.

If a high profile scenario like this in full view of everyone comes to nothing? there is no hope of anything progressing here... ever...

Call him in! We’ve been told by the PM himself that the law applies to everyone. If the deputy PM is innocent, he should want to give testimony. Hell, he should wanna do it live on TV to put this all to bed. After all, he’s a politician now. Reputation is everything.

He could do this live on Friday night with all the living owners of the watches. Not only do the watch-owners get to help their friend prove his innocence (I mean they like the guy so much they let him borrow their million baht watches), but more importantly they get to be the centre of attention live on TV. With millions of viewers!!

If people thought I’d been stealing, I’d go nuts. I’d be doing everything to prove my innocence. I’d hate to have people think I was a scummy thief.

There is a third option of submitting the case to the Supreme Court. What am I thinking? The NACC simply can't bite the hand that feeds them. Clear as day; terminate the case.

Are you OK, don't try and be the tough guy. There is help available for PTSD you might need to try it.

Welcome to the wonderful and bizarre world of corruption and nepotism.....:coffee1:

High profile investigations come to naught in countries ALL over the world

Terminated of course, the reason being all his watch collecting and big hearted friends are now dead and are past resurrection, therefore can't possibly be called to confirm or deny his well prepared (only about 6 months - some people can write a PhD thesis in this time) cock-and-bull story.

I say terminate... with extreme prejudice!  :cheesy:

Of course they can confirm his story.

Given his extensive watch collection, Prawit could easily become a 'time-traveller' and go backwards in time to speak to them on behalf of the NACC.

All over red rover. Case dismissed but then again this was the only verdict that was  considered . Just another big laugh

Totally Nacc-erd .

After 4 months of reading this shit, I still have the same opinion - It's like reading the last chapter of a book first; it doesn't matter how many times the plot changes, the ending remains the same.

25 luxury watches is chump change compared with Prawit's total amassed "unusual wealth". It's also a quite ridiculous to be investigating (I use the term loosely) Prawit's assets and ignoring the fact that Prayuth is also obscenely rich and has made it abundantly clear that no one is allowed to ask how he obtained his wealth. If you even dared to question it, you would never see the light of day again. This is precisely the reason Prayuth cannot and will not dismiss Prawit. All the inner circle of the junta are full aware that they have all obtained their wealth through corruption. A gang of thieves who like tp dress up as soldiers.

So when is the good news being broadcast?

http://englishnews.thaipbs.or.th/nacc-decides-probe-needed-dpm-prawits-wristwatch-controversy/

After four months of investigation by its panel, the National Anti-Corruption Commission today (March 29) decided not to decide on the controversial issue pertaining to Deputy Prime Minister Prawit Wongsuwon’s diamond ring and luxury wristwatches by assigning the panel to conduct further probe to find out the real owner or owners of the wristwatches.
