Thailand and Cambodia the most deadly destinations for young British travellers

There is a difference between risky behaviour that you would not try at home and being an innocent victim abroad. And even some of those innocent victims could have done more homework to make better informed choices. Thailand is not inherently dangerous and I have usually felt safer in most of Thailand than in many UK inner cities on a Sat night.

Correct, without common sense anywhere is dangerous.

Come on, Thailand.  A little more work and you can claim this #1 spot just like you did road accidents.

These statistics are hardly cause for concern. More Brits die horse riding than they do coming to Thailand. Furthermore I'm English and I'd rather live in SE Asia than back in Blighty, and I have done

around 30 people would think this is quite significant

30 people dead in four decades. About .8 per year. Far more are killed by horses. More people die falling out of bed or tripping on stairs than salt water crocs.

Absolutely agree with both of you. I went "home" a couple of years ago and upon my return noticed far more expats and tourists not using helmets on motorcycles. Not sure if it was my perception or reality but I found it surprising.

Why on earth anyone riding a scooter in the country with the highest motorcycle death rate in the world wouldn't use a helmet puzzles me.

I'd rather die falling out of bed than getting chomped on by a croc

I'd rather die while still in the bed 555

I live in a small city and when i'm going for a drink the 99% of farang i see are brits who drink till they pass out and just drive home, with car or m.bike.

so i'm not surprised when so Manny brits are involved in deadly exidents..

I also drink and drive but not like brits do :sleepy::smile:.

I'd have imagined it was higher!

not exactly the most reliable information

plus with Thailand being so popular for tourists of coarse the accident rate and death rate is going to be higher

plus allot of then don’t take precautions when traveling

how many die due to no ones fault but their own?

The figures are per capita so the popularity of the country is irrelevent.

I'm surprised Tland isn't number 1.

I would re-write the headline to read

The two places where young brits with little common sense come to and leave what little common sense they have back home.

Bacteria, flus, car accidents, fights would have killed thousands. Crocs don't walk the streets.

No, number 2.

They lost out to Cambodia......

Yeah, Britts should stay home. The colonial times are over

For young Brits a holiday isn't any good if they can't get p*ssed every day.

And for them the left-side traffic is what they're used to. The mainland European kids also drink alcohol and drive bikes but don't die that much.

Ah, never long before the resident prejudiced anti Brit turns up posting more figments of his imagination on posts like this!

Using your logic so should French, Germans, Belgians, Dutch, Spanish, Portuguese, Italians, Japanese, and Americans.

Or his that beyond your grasp?

No course you don't drink like others do, and they all must be British where you live. Although you admit to drink driving, you keep well under the legal limit do you?

Regardless of what nationality they actually are, it must be a clever trick to pass out and then drive some kind of vehicle!!

Where does it say any deaths were due to driving above the alcohol limit?

Twaddle, probably MUI - made up under the influence!

Edited by Baerboxer

Isn’t the Sun a gossip rag owned by Murdock? Not much different from the National Inquirer?

Deaths per visitors? Considering the average length of stay in Thailand is over twice as long as in Europe, these are pretty worthless statistics, I'd say...
