Police in Pattaya detained a Russian tourist believed to be intoxicated and speeding when his high-powered motorcycle struck a rescue worker at 1am Thursday.

Apimon Sathornkij, 37, had come to the aid of another motorcyclist who’d upended in front of the Harley-Davidson service centre on Sukhumvit Road in Chon Buri’s Bang Lamung district when Oleg Volobujev, 45, allegedly ploughed into him.

Police said Volobujev, who had a Thai woman riding pillion, was speeding and was so drunk that all he could say was that he was indeed drunk.

He was taken to the police station and, once sober, would have to negotiate compensation for Apimon.

The police should be taken to the police station, just to remind them where they work, get them to re-read their terms of reference, and show them how to write-out a charge sheet for being DUI!

According to the report I read no one was killed

my comment of Mai Pen Rai

is that nothing changes here in Thailand if you think taking the drunk Russian to the police station waiting for him to sober up then pay money ( compensation ) to the people involved is okay that's fine

he should be jailed and deported but that is not going to happen

So why did they not arrest that bastard , only lucky he did not kill anyone. High powered bike, no helmet, drunk , what could possibly go wrong ?

The OP says that he was detained, believed to be intoxicated and speeding, so it's not unlikely that that means he was arrested.

Perhaps that's what happened.
