Thaksin and Yingluck show up in Tokyo

Former prime ministers Thaksin Shinawatra and Yingluck Shinawatra attended a social function in Tokyo today (March 29), The Asahi Shimbun reports.

 

In a brief interview at the sidelines of the function held at the New Otani Hotel, Thaksin predicted that Pheu Thai Party would get a landslide victory in the next general election.

 

Thaksin said he wished Thailand returns to democracy as soon as possible. He said Thailand needs a system that allows a free of speech and guarantee human rights to the people. “That is what Thailand needs especially in this modern economy, you need democracy to allow more creativity to happen in Thailand,” he said.

If he is right, then it is only a question about time, before the elite mobilized the army and/or "the independent judiciary" to have the election voided...

Hopefully this time the Thai people will stand up and demand their votes to be respected....

I think this a disgraceful post with the obvious photo shopped pic of two criminals who have fled Thai justice.Everybody knows that these two are cowering in Dubai while the international community/Interpol are actively following the instructions of the Royal Thai Government to pursue and detain these two villains, prior to extradition back to Thailand to face justice.There is no way these two could be gallivanting around the world exactly as they please and friendly governments such as Japan ignoring the military regimes's instructions to detain.We have been told time and time again by the Thai authorities that these criminals on the run will be pursued and that the international community is on side.Obviously we must believe the Thai authorities given their record for truthfulness and straight talking.I mean if Thaksin and Yingluck actually were in Tokyo on the lam, that would mean that the Thai government was lying through its teeth - an obvious impossibility, or profoundly stupid in a way that defies measurement.

Yeah, right, and what kind of democracy would that be ? The kind that allows capitalist tycoons like him to buy votes, fool the poor  with populist bs and treat public finances as a mere branch of their own business network ?

 

Every time I hear this guy brandishing the virtues of 'free elections' and 'democracy' it makes me puke.

 

The sad truth is that, for the moment and probably for a very long time, Thailand can not 'return' to democracy, for the simple reason that there never was any such thing here. In order to return somewhere, you need to have been there at least once.

You are about five or so years late with the vote buying claims. Claims that have been pretty well demolished any way.

 

It is the case that the elections which brought Thaksin and Yingluck to power were recognised as essentially free, fair and representative of the electorates will, recognised by international monitoring organisations and, perhaps more importantly, accepted as such by their electoral opponents.

 

It is also the case that both Thaksin and Yingluck's possible (probable) re-election was forestalled by the military, during those re-election campaigns, staging coups and installing military junta governments.

 

Taking all that into account your claim that Thailand was never a democracy is really a smokescreen for the " sad truth" which you really cannot bring yourself to a admit - that you prefer a far right ultra conservative military junta to a government which the people have consistently chosen.

 

Viewed from that perspective the "simple truth" is that you don't really make much of a case do you?

Really crazy how she able to steer the economy to recover the mother of all flood, achieved a better GDP and revenue than current without good policies. Then have her infrastructure and EEC policies followed up by the junta government. Must be flattery to her policies to see the projects realization.

This guy, who makes you puke, is actually the only elected PM, who has done a full 4 year term since 1932....

And one thing is for sure...during his rule Thailand was closer to democracy than we are today...The present dinosaurs have turned back the clock a decade or two...

When was the last time the US elected a poor person as a president? Billions of $ spent on their campaigns...to fool the poor....

The only real democracies in the world are those in Europe...
