What is under the speed pedal and why it "clicks"?

Featured Replies

I wonder what the thing is called which is placed under the speed pedal and if I push the speed pedal through it, it is possible just to push it a little further with a little "click" (possibly the plastic bending). It feels like reaching the push down end of the speed pedal but then its just a little bit more if I push again.

Is this a normal behavior? Could it be a speed limiter not correctly in place?

Do not know what vehicle you are talking about, but possibly the 'kick down' switch.

If it's an automatic it's the kickdown mechanism that causes the transmission to drop a couple of gears rapidly when you push the accelerator to the floor for maximum acceleration.

Try it out from driving in top gear (on a clear stretch of road with nothing in front of you if you're not familiar with what it does).

If you floor the accelerator from a standstill past that point of travel where you feel the resistance it will hold the gears up to the rev limiter before letting the box change up.

Ah nice, thanks, this must be it. I will test it.

Make sure you are not stopped at the traffic lights when you do test the 'speed pedal'.
