Some help for a worried friend.

My mate is going to do his border stamp which he has done every month for god knows how many years, but the difference this time is he has 3 highlighted stamps from his last 3 visits can anybody give any information on if they are actually turning people away. He is in his 60's and a writer not a teacher but i dont suppose that matters anymore, has anybody been in a similar situation?

Cheers Mike

Although have not seen anything specific to Sadao if he been here on 30 day entry without visa he will most likely not be returning with another from reports at other crossings. He needs to go to a Consulate and obtain a tourist visa if he can not afford retirement extensions of stay.

Thanks lopburi, so if he goes to a consulate in Penang or any other bordering country he can pay and get a tourist stamp there? 30 days?

Mike. Your friend should take a trip to Penang, there he can obtain a tourist visa good for a 60 day stay which is then extendable by 30 days at immigration.

He MAY (reports vary as to availability) be able to get a double entry tourist which will give him two 60 day stays each of which are extendable by 30 days.

Once the TV is used up, he can do 3 more visa waiver trips before having to go to Penang again.

cheers all for the quick responces. Just one last thing Crossy do you know how much the 60 day visa is in Penang?

Cheers in advance

Mike

Should be 1000baht equivalent same as everywhere else?

The 60 day tourist visa in Penang is 100 ringit, which is roughly 1000 baht.

Penang has stopped issuing double entry tourist visas, for a fact.

A close friend of mine was recently deported from Thailand for a 21 day overstay. He came back to Malaysia and tried to enter at the Sadao border on a 30 day VOA. He was refused! He and went back to the Thai Embassy in KL and was issued a 2 month tourist visa no problem! He was surprised and is now back in Bangkok trying to get his life back in order.

I am sorry!  I forgot to say my friend had already got 92 days of VOA's and that was the reason for his refused entry to Thailand in Sadao.  Not his Deportation for 21 days overstay!

Well just an update, my mate went to do his border bounce on Sunday after having all of the past 3 month stamps highlighted and was given another 30 day stamp without any problems or questions.

Only in THAILAND lmao :o

Hi, this question is for Crossy. My tourist visa will expire soon, you mentioned that once the TV is used up, I can do another 3 visa runs for visa on demand? Can someone please confirm this? Thank you.

You address a post to Crossy for somebody to confirm what Crossy said.

Yes, from your quote I would confirm Crossy did say that and from reports on TV is seems to be true. What happens next week or an hour from now we can not really predict with any certainty however.

I would always recommend having a visa if you intend to spend much time here.

Im glad he got a 4th stamp. Says something about the hospitality and kindness of Thai individuals regardless of what they are paid to do.

Lets face it, if what I just said is the truth and by other stories I have read there are many Thai immigation officers that seem to be careing more about the "farangs" needs than performing the duties of their job.

I'm sure many people dont like the new rules put in place by the thai government but the unfortunate fact is it is the LAW. Some people are being just plain lucky others hard done by but the facts are fact things have changed. There are new rules.

Its good to here some people are getting what they want (and crowing like barnyard roosters in the process) but I think everyone should take a serious look at adapting to the new rules, it really doesnt seem that hard. Being lazy or plain broke shouldnt be an excuse. If your broke and have survived in Thailand for so long in the past, face up to the facts - you are on borrowed time, best to get a grip and back up onto your own feet.

I've met quite a few blokes who are still capable of working back were they come from but choise to stay in thailand for the easy way out (not that I can blame them) but also to drink and go whoring. One thing most have in common is their total lack respect for the average thai and there laws.

Maybe in the thought train of improving the worlds image of thailand the authouritys have taken steps to make it just that little bit harder for that class of people and get some extra revenue in the process.

I really dont see the changes as catstophic as some do and once the thais enforce the new rules like they should everyone will know were they stand. You cant allways survive on luck and the goodwill of others.
