PHUKET:-- Following a slew of complaints about the lack of seating and long queues to clear immigration, Phuket International Airport General Manager Petch Chancharoen yesterday (April 1) went public to claim that “everything is fine” at the facility.

Speaking to the press yesterday, Mr Petch insisted that Phuket airport was able to process 60,000 passengers arriving and departing on more than 350 flights per day.

“Currently Phuket International Airport is rated under the Airports Council International Airport Service Quality (ASQ) Passenger Satisfaction Survey. It is a global benchmarking program that measures passengers’ satisfaction while they are at the airport,” Mr Phetch said, without explaining Phuket airport’s actual ranking in the survey.*

It may take a few chinese tourists to poo while on line in the hall of the never ending queues at Swampy or Phuket to realise that the queues may be a bit too long ?

I have questions concerning  this airport general manager and these questions need to be asked about all heads and managers throughout Thailand

1. how did this person get this job - how were they appointed

2. what level of education do they have (if any)

3. what experience do they have

I get the impression there are a lot of uneducated people in Thailand trying (and failing) to carry out key roles throughout this country and they simply are not capable

Jobs awarded for friends or favours perhaps, and could be the reason why the country has not progressed these last 50 years

Its called nepotism.
Most officials havent got the qualifications for the job, its a paid position which they recoup the cost through corruption.
All facets of government work the same way. Everyone wants to get into the Customs department, thats where the real money earning potential is.

“We do not want Phuket airport to become another mall,” ACM Boonyarit said.

Reading this report, it seems that it's not even a proper airport yet.

Who/what are you going to believe. The thousands of complainants and pictures of the long lineups or me.

I wonder if they undertake these surveys at peak busy times or on the rare quiet occasions when passengers  get through quickly.

I reckon those at the amphur land registry offices could give them folks a run for the position of most profitable.

Well it's not as if he's going to come out and go 'Yep, you're absolutely right- it's a bag of feces' is he?

Far better to hand on heart  and 'Yep. there's a few issues but hopefully come June and the Domestic upgrades are finished we can address other issues and sort them out'. Unfortunately 'face' prevents this and we get the normal BS.

I am surprised no one had ever remarked on the 'ramp to nowhere' at the IT and the fact that it ends before the road This entails all traffic having to turn left on exiting and drive down to the nearest U-turn to get carved up by a bus turning from the other lane.

60 % of the departure area dedicated to shops? Someone wants shooting for that!

You know the rules. if you have an international flight allow 3 hours before the flight departs. Saves all the worry about queuing.
