A 21-year-old Vietnamese woman was arrested by Vietnamese anti-human trafficking police at the Cambodia-Vietnam border on Saturday after leaving Kandal province’s Chrey Thom commune. Major Sok Phally, deputy chief of the anti-human trafficking and juvenile protection department in Kandal province, identified the suspect as Nguyen Thikinvoeung, from Vietnam’s An Giang province.

“The suspect was arrested by Vietnamese anti-human trafficking police in Vietnamese territory after she trafficked two Cambodian girls from Cambodia to work as commercial sex workers in Vietnam,” he said yesterday. Maj Phally added that after her arrest, Vietnamese police rescued the Cambodian girls and seized related travel documents.

“After her arrest, Vietnamese police rescued two Cambodian girls. After rescuing them, Vietnamese police contacted our Cambodian police directly and invited us to come to bring the victims back,” he said. The two rescued Cambodians were identified as Heang Laing Eng, 18, and Thy Phalla, 16, who both come from disadvantaged families in Kandal province’s Khsach Kandal district.
