Arthroscopic Knee Surgery Doctor Recommendations

Recommended Posts

Looking for recommendations on good doctors in Bangkok or Chiangmai for arthroscopic knee surgery for a torn meniscus. If anyone has had this surgery or other arthroscopic surgery, please share doctor recommendations, cost and name of the hospital.

A previous thread recommended Dr Panya at Bumrungrad. I've seen him and know he would be the top choice, but the cost is 250,000 to 3000,000 Baht which is out of my price range.

A previous thread also mentioned Doctor Somchai at Bangkok Cristian Hospital (or maybe it was St.Louis Hospital) for less than 100,000 Baht. If someone could provide his surname, it would be helpful.

+1 for Chanakarn    He fixed a frozen shoulder of mine (arthroscopic), and did the knees of a gentleman I know in Chiang Mai who would also highly recommend him.  Mine was 5 years ago for about 100k all in.  Don’t know how much the knees would be.

Anyone have any information regarding Dr. Somchai at Bangkok Christian or St. Louis hospital? Somchai is a very common first name so I'd like to know his surname because there are many doctors names Somchai.

It will probably be much more than 100K at either St Louis or Bangkok Christian (but it wil be less than at Bumrungrad)

I believe the doctor you are referring to is Prof. Somsak  (not Somchai) Kuptniratsaikul :

Do you have any experience with Dr. Somsak? Has he been recommended to you. A previous thread did mention a Dr. Somchai, but I can't find any more info about him.

I'm still shopping around, but getting a recommended Doctor is the first priority.

Dr. Somsak is the Dr. Somchai you are referring to whom another TV member recommended. . For some reason on the BCH website he is listed twice, once under his correct name (Somasak) and once as Somchai, hence the confusion.

Beyond the one old post from a TV member that you saw, I have no feedback on him.  I do see that he holds a faculty appointment at Chula and has published in knee arthroscopy, both good signs

He has published on a wide range of other ortho issues as well so does not focus specifically on knees https://cop.car.chula.ac.th/somsak. k/?sec=publication

Another doctor to consider, also a Prof at Chula, is Dr. Pongsak Yuktanandana.  He is at St Louis Thursday and Sunday evenings, or used to be, I cannot confirm as their website now is only in Thai. He trained extensively abroad including a fellowship in the US, Jaopan and Germany.
