Had this done last Sunday, is it normal to still feel pain around the extraction plus headache and half of my head on molar side feeling very tender after nearly a week, I'm concerned they have left part of the tooth or nerve in the extraction site, should I get an x ray to confirm it's clear or is what I am experiencing normal.

That is a long time to still have significant pain. Need to rule out infection, return to the dentist.

It is also possible that there was trauma to an adjacent nerve (highly improbable that part of the tooth was left in). If this is the case it may subside with time and anti-inflammatories will help, but the priority is to rule out infection since that would require immediate intervention.

Thanks, I will go back and have checked.

Did they do socket preservation and periodontal ligament removal ? Socket preservation gives you implant option at later date without expensive grafting .

Periodontal ligament removal

There are two important steps to follow when removing a tooth: First, it is imperative to remove the entire tooth. Avoid leaving any root tips behind. These can lead to chronic, low grade infections that can fester within the jawbone. Second, once the tooth is extracted, thoroughly remove the periodontal ligament .

Still in pain, it's now 9 days, should I get an x ray of the gum/jaw to see if the extraction site is clear?

Well, did you go back when you said you would? Go and see the dentist.

In the absence of an examination, no one here can diagnose your issue. You may have an infection, and no, taking antibiotics on your own will not fix it. If your molar was extracted, did you by any chance have an abscess or pre-existing gum disease? One doesn't remove a healthy tooth so obviously there was an issue. Was the extraction in  lieu of a root canal and crown?

If in doubt as to the competency of your dentist, select another one to verify.

Just back from Dentist, had xrays which showed extraction site clear, had it cleaned and drilled smooth as slight infection, now have anti biotics and special mouth wash plus pain killers, hopefully should be fine now. Tooth was broken for many yrs but was fine untill recently where it became uncomfortable to eat.

Get 3D cone scan to look at total dental health so you not need to pull other teeth and will also give much more details of area where tooth was pulled . Dental health is so related to total health that everyone getting full mouth cone CT of mouth when they get older is s very real opportunity.

Any competent dentist should be able to tell by looking at the extracted tooth if it's all out. However, so many cheap clinics in LOS I'm sure some are not the best. There used to be an orthodontist in Naklua near the Dolphin roundabout. If it doesn't clear up, i'd go see him if he's still there.

It's definitely not normal to have continuing problems if done properly.

In Thailand the trick for every job is finding someone competent to do it. There are many people here doing all sorts of jobs, but few seem to really know what they are doing. This applies to every walk of life, including the health services.
