howto
My 'go-to' desktop is 12 years old (will not replace or upgrade it). Using W7-Ult 64-bit, 4-GB ram (maxed out). I've had enough of FireFox 5902, uses too much ram, same with Chrome. Suggestions of a replacement light-weight browser please , must be able to ,,, - import bookmarks from FF - use add-ons - tabs Cheers, howto. JSixpack
Best bets are probably Opera https://www.opera.com/ and Greenbrowser: http://www.morequick.com/indexen.htm These you'll find somewhat lighter, maybe not enough to make the difference you're seeking: https://www.palemoon.org/ (can use most legacy Firefox extensions) https://www.comodo.com/home/browsers-toolbars/browser.php http://www.slimjet.com/

Oxx
Lynx is probably the most lightweight browser out there. Or you might try Mosaic.

And really the described configuration will not be brought down just by browsers. Try to find what other problems you have on the PC. How much memory used after startup/login without any application SW started? How much memory used by the browsers? You have xx tabs open?

How much memory used after startup/login without any application SW started? How much memory used by the browsers? You have xx tabs open? There are no other issues with this pc. OS is on C:\ which is a Samsung 840 Pro SSD. (has a 1GB swapfile, which is never 'hit') -- Startup from power on to desktop is <40 sec. memory used by OS = 1.96GB of which 1.151GB is Non-Paged Kernel Available = 2.069GB -- There are very few "startup apps" enabled -- Memory used by FF, 1 tab, a blank page and 5 extensions is 0.51GB. Typically only 2 tabs open. I rarely open more than 5 tabs, use the tab then close. After a few hours, FF & system becomes sluggish, FF has pushed ram usage to 3.8+GB Even with only 2 tabs. Only fix is - 'clear history', (Which does not fully 'clear' as I can confirm w/ CCcleaner) - close FF, - then run CCcleaner. If I use an app, FF is closed and CCcleaner is run. I'm running FF 1 tab to post this reply Ram usage is now 2.8GB. I have monitored for memory leaks, there are none. Prior to doing a OP, I tried Vivaldi, it is fast and used 0.11GB ram. Drawbacks;; can't import bookmarks, cant use my add-ons. Thanks to those whom have replied. Take care, be safe on this Songkran.
