Huge cache of "war weapons" found as toy trader faces 10 years in jail for water guns!

Police in Thonburi with a search warrant raided the premises of a toy trader yesterday and found a huge cache of guns - water guns for use in battles at Songkran.

 

The trader could hardly believe that so many police and trading standards officers were on her doorstep - but now she faces ten years in jail and a million baht fine.

 

Police Colonel Pratheep Charoensri was pictured handling one of the "high powered" weapons saying serious damage could be done if water went in someone's eye.

 

In total 192 guns in four boxes imported from China were uncovered at the four and a half story premises of Sukanya Kittisakdamrong, 50, in Ekachai Ropad Soi 10 in Jom Thong district.

 

Sukanya is the owner of "Gift and Toys Import Export".

 

She was hauled in to Bang Khun Thian police station where she said that if the guns were illegal why didn't customs stop them when they were imported in March?

 

Pol Col Pratheep countered that his men were acting on a tip after the guns were found to be on sale at Sampeng market - a hotbed of activity in the sale of clothes and children's toys.

 

 

The trail led to Sukanya's door.

 

The Thonburi court swiftly issued warrant number 58/2561 and the police teams moved in.

 

The water guns resembled any that you might expect to be on sale anywhere at any time but the authorities were determined.

 

 

Daily News said that the the toy dealer faced 10 years behind bars and or a fine of 1 million baht.

 

Thailand's Songkran festival often features battles with Thais and tourists using what many would be Rambo's like to think are war weapons......to squirt water.

When I thought I couldn't be totally amazed at anything here, once again, I have been proven wrong.

So, how many Bar pressure is it in those guns? Maybe can use them as high pressure washer to clean the car?

I was at the mall the other day. War weapons were on sale, 20% off.

Checking the date and seeing it is the 11th, not the 1st, I still just do not believe it!

Seriously, you just could not make this up and have anyone outside here believe it either.

Gonna have to drop off a laughter emoji on the story, cos it is extremely funny.

Cousin Somchai's identical lot can be sold in peace now.

give those cops a medal for tracking down these high powered highly lethal weapons (plastic water pistols) and getting them off the streets, they really are working well above their station and far beyond their call of duty.

Perhaps they truly are higher powered than others.. that is about the only thing I can think about. 

 

I can understand the trader being in tears, she loses a lot of money and threat of jail.

 

If these are no different from others then this is just a shakedown. Some real testing is needed. 

 

But unless the customs office really checked them (like when you have to go to customs office) just being able to receive them does not mean a thing. Plenty of drugs send by mail too, bet the excuse would not work there either.

 

Its a real strange story and I feel for the trader and think there are better things to do for the police. In the old days you had pipe water guns that really did damage. I would not mind if they gone after those.. but this.. crazy IMHO (unless they truly are more powerful) 

Protecting their interests I would image. Don't the army and the police have the monopoly on gun sales in this country?

Lethal water pistols, dartboards, connect 4.......what's next on the RTP hit list. Tiddlywinks and pick-up-sticks?

I am sure this "misunderstanding" can be sorted with an appropriate donation to the Policeman's Ball.

Please be reasonable and consistent. They have to start somewhere. In this case they  nailed a person who imports them and profits from their sale. Yes, there were only 192 seized, but I can assure you that there were others. This is called   making an example case to serve as a deterrent to others. The foreigners on thsi forum scream and cry about these weapons. Now that the police act, they are  insulted.

Cops are going to be busy then. I suspect tens of thousands of evil water pistol traders will be rampant in their activities in coming days.

I wouldn`t want to be on the receiving end of one of those high powered water guns if on my motorbike. Those water guns are capable of causing serious damage or blinding someone if aimed directly at the eyes. Glad the police are getting them off the streets.

While real guns seem to be everywhere,afraid to honk at a driver

who has nearly took your front end off,while cutting in front,he

might have a gun,and  be stupid enough to use it.

Nothing better to do? I guess the bibs are being squeezed by the junta, no more easy hand outs such as traffic infractions on protection money, so they target these silly things.
