A Finnish man suffered serious injuries after falling from a hotel in Pattaya on Wednesday.

Hautamaki Mikko Veu Samuel, 33, suffered head injuries when he fell from the fifth floor of the Araya Inn on Soi Honey.

He was given first aid at the scene then rushed to hospital.

A woman working in a nearby bar said said she heard a loud noise at around 3pm on Wednesday.

After going to investigate she found the man on the floor in the gap between two neighbouring buildings, Sophon Cable reported.

It is not known if the man fell as the result of an accident or if he jumped.

Police are investigating the incident.

So just the 2 options been tabled for investigation then ??

Damn these cops are good...

Give 'em a chance, it only happened yesterday; Pattaya Plod have to check out all the angles for making money before they decide what charge to bring.

Miracle he survived a fall from the 5th floor.

Mortality after a fall from the 4th floor is about 50%, which rises to about 90% from the 7th floor. Only from around the 10th floor does mortality become fairly certain, though even then it depends how you fall and what you fall onto.

Some comments also ignore the fact that hotel management could possibly tell lies to protect their reputation !!

Some comments also ignore the fact that Thai police don't have the best reputation in the world when it comes to competent police work !!

But those comments are obviously made knowing all the facts, maybe not :)

Some comments also ignore the fact that this is cynical thaivisa forum

Lucky he did not fall on the high voltage lines that go along the front quite close.

And the nice artwork balcony railings are at least not too high

He looks in very good shape for a guy that just fell from the 5th floor. His bones at least look normal. Fingers crossed he pulls through and gets to tell the tale.

Ben Casey, how can you tell from that picture?! Internal injuries, and yes broken bones may not me visible from the outside, and certainly not on a partial pic.

Regardless of the cause for the injury, I hope the man has adequate health insurance for a complete and speedy recovery.

It brings to mind with all the balcony and swimming pool related accidents we hear about in Bangkok that maybe a limited on-premise group health insurance could be offered through a hotel association such as the “Hotel Association for Tourist of Thailand.”

It is not known if he fell or jumped.

Or if he was pushed !!!

Thaivisa has very conveniently chosen to use this report which omits the fact that he only checked into the hotel shortly before he fell.  There was no mention of his being accompanied so there is not much reason to suggest that he was pushed.

If you bothered to read anything else, such as the Bangkok Post which reported the incident yesterday, you'd know that.

It can also be like the police already checked the scene in the room he fell from, and that the hotell management reported that he walked in alone.
looks like that is something most of the comments here disregard totally, in their fame and glory to state something that they have no grounding facts for.

Nice to be able to agree with every word that you say for once!

Some of the ones you refer to have to be forgiven because of the damage done to them by the good slaps that they claim to have been given when they were children.

We don't actually care what the cops say. We already know.

We'll see how this thread goes. Fortunately the man has survived thus far. But normally any balcony dive creates a major stir throughout the vast CSI: TVF network. It spreads like a virulent STD from the local Pattaya dicks to the vast population of off-brand wannabes free to post worldwide from their bars, rented rooms, council estates, trailer parks, 7/11 curbstones, school lunchrooms, internet cafes, park benches, retirement homes, etc. You have no idea who or where they are, esp. given all the illiteracy (from the supposed native English speakers; maybe the cat walked on the keyboard? Friend o' mine's cat does that sometimes).

Roboposting

A balcony dive thread attracts lots of roboposting from the CSI: TVF robosleuths and wannabes. It seems keyboard shortcuts are assigned to the same ol' timeworn declarations of police incompetence and corruption, accusations of bribe-taking, and doubts about the evidence at the scene. And a perp is always selected from the four on the list: the Thai wife, the gf, the ho', or the ladyboy. It almost appears as though some roboposters get up earlier in the morning to be first off the line with their robopost. But how better to start the day than by assuring oneself of one's superiority to Thais?

Of course roboposting often occurs in many other wank-topics as well, but those are beyond the scope of the present discussion.

Finally, given the powerful convergence of balcony dive and Thai police, a particularly virulent group will need to invade your dive's forum thread: the paranoids afflicted with Tic-Related Police Conspiracy OCD (TRPCOCD). Maybe even a few doomsayers to utter their prophecies of a farang Exodus and THE END. Oh, yes.

So we hear that

  • the forged note,
  • the Bogart last cigarette butt, and
  • the chewing gum on the balcony railing

were all police plants. The true perp will never be caught or if caught will never do time! A Burmese is gonna be framed.

Avoid it, no matter how disappointed you are that the Tunnel didn't flood and plenty of tourists are walking on the Promenade. The style and dignity of your dive, with its cool nod to The Last Tango In Paris, will cheapened with red herrings thrown all over it!

Brilliant.

Is that factual based on statistics? Just curious, as I look out my 5th floor balcony, I would 100% be brown bread if I fell as it’s so high. Maybe it depends on the size of the floors too.
